Like anyone, he's employed to do a job and whether the current direction is one that he sold to his superiors or one that his bosses employed him as the best candidate to see through, it's a joint effort. He's not running riot off his own bat, willy-nilly. One vocal element of the audience moaning on social media and the press being upset because they're not getting spoilers is not going to change anything in the short-term, especially as the audience numbers are holding up well.”

Part 2, there is no reason why it can't happen as it has many times on soaps before, was'nt Bryan Birkwood given his marching orders?? And he caused irreparable damage, see Pat Butcher.
I also remember Paul Marquess getting the boot from Hollyoaks even though fans were enjoying his work!
And as for spoilers, what on earth are all those pictures of the Mitchell sisters on a high wall over a pool all about then?? We know the whole story already!

Why would the BBC remove him? He's doing what he set out to do (and I repeat, he's not running off doing his own thing, he's taking the show in a direction that his bosses wanted, or at least agreed to). Audience numbers haven't fallen. Some people are moaning that it's boring but as audience numbers haven't fallen any people that have switched off have been replaced by new viewers or returning viewers. So, on what basis is he failing?

Regarding the spoilers, the photos are just that - photos that The Sun has cobbled together a possible storyline for. It's up to us if we believe what they've published or not. The BBC hasn't said anything to back it up or to refute it. They haven't even said that R&R are being killed off, just 'rested'. Until (if) the BBC says something, I'm more inclined to take it all with a rather large pinch of salt. I certainly don't feel that I know the story already, just what The Sun thinks the story might be.

I don't see why the BBC would remove SOC. I assume when the top brass interviewed him for the role all his vision was mapped out for them to see, if they liked it then that surely suggests the BBC want EastEnders heading in the direction it now is.

As for spoilers leaking. EE was shooting on location and paps with a long lense took some photos. That's hardly SOC's fault. The press will always find a way to get what they want.

I'm just saying what I think, you know this being a discussion forum. I'm flattered you think I have such power that I can summon other users into being on my side as I take on SOC.

And you say I talk nonsense.

Or, it could have something to do with the character suffering from depression...

I was going to ask this in the thread, is Emmerdale now officially the second main soap?

If he goes ahead with it as it seems then I think this will be a big big mistake , viewers will not be happy

Link is a possible spoiler with pics

Nothing in there reads like a dig at SOC to me.

There's an easy way around what you've said. He didn't have to agree to be interviewed on SOC's vision at all. He left the show weeks ago and one presumes is only obligated to talk about his own exit storyline in media interviews.

Viewers won't be happy with what? The storyline or R&R dying?

We know very little about the storyline. A few grainy pap photos is all we have to go on - none of which yet confirm either dies. There's been no official confirmation on anything. The press have just assigned their own storylines to the photos they've bought in. The storylines that accompany pap photos of TV filming very rarely are the full story.

As for them being killed off full stop, I think it's a hasty decision on Roxy's part. The character might've gotten a bit repetitive and is generally peripheral but she still has her moments, is a good supporting character, and the writing for her has been nowhere near as bad as it has for Ronnie.

Sadly, Ronnie's exhausted through years of bad writing and Sam Womack phoning in it. Prison for a long time or death were the only suitable endings for her. I am all for characters having more than one side to them but nothing with Ronnie has felt fluid the last couple of years. DTC ruined his most memorable creation by not having a clue what to do with her.

Emmerdale although might be doing well will always be 3rd I think the fact that EE and CS are talked about A LOT more in real life shows they are the main 2.

People with the attention span of a gnat might get bored, but I'd imagine most will be fine.

Why compare EE to ED & CS? The ITV soaps are known for sensationalism & unrealistic stories, EE's best years were not.

Patience is a virtue. EE is re-building itself. Give it time - things will balance out.

Slightly OT, but it would be good to know the ages of people who are bored against those that say they are loving EE. I fear the "youngsters" are the moaners, whilst us "oldies" are happy....

EE have beaten Emmerdale in the ratings more time than the other way around.

Not that it matters though I love both shows. I would argue based on quality that corrie is now being Emmerdale and EE. However ratings wise corrie can churn out any old rubbish and they'll still top thr ratings

Arguably, EE and CS are the bigger shows and are still seen as the main two. However, for a considerable time now both shows have been generating discussions and threads like these for negative reasons. The opposite can be said for Emmerdale which seems to go from strength to strength, and thats being reflected not just in ratings which carry variables.

Emmerdale known for sensationalism? Wrong show. Be it may be a more recent association of the show but the Emmerdale I remember was different altogether

Not like you to put a negative spin on EE's ratings.
