Not like you to put a negative spin on EE's ratings.

Yes I know that David but EE in paticular has been getting a lot of criticism about its ratings saying the new producer is rubbish however the ratings are fine and the past few weeks have been great. Great storylines last night and the writing has been improving to no ends.

Its also not like you to get so defensive over eastenders .
![]() A few love to make a mountain out of a molehill regarding its ratings and I sometimes offer a more rational perspective there but that doesn't make me a blind defender of the show. |

I am 100% behind SOC's vision of EE. I didn't realise how far it had strayed from the path until we got back to proper character-driven drama and slower, stronger scripts. I think people underestimate the damage that was done to the show in the last few years.

Any show can do that.
Emmerdale and Eastenders have been far better than corrie over the last few years yet corrie still tops it. It just shows that it's not about quality |

Not only is Sean O'Connor ruining EastEnders, he ruined ma dinner when he turned Phil into a yellow-skinned potato.

I support SOC's vision and like the slower pace and softer tone. However, I am bored to death.

Emmerdale known for sensationalism? Wrong show. Be it may be a more recent association of the show but the Emmerdale I remember was different altogether
It's just on the random occasions I've seen bits of Emmerdale it has seemed sensational, far-fetched. Not that EE has been perfect in recent times.... |

I did like how nothing dramatic happened during the wedding for once. However all the duff duffs are terrible and he lacks any dramatic storyline.

You may be right. I don't watch it.

Eastenders used to be the clear second soap even beating Corrie at times. Now Emmerdale is catching them. EE has definitely lost viewers.
Some people say this is old school EE. Whilst I have seen some fair comparisons, there are times when nothing is happening. Talking about rubbish or the weather. Its not going anywhere. You have to have some drama . Nothing I have heard or read or duff duffs make me think to watch the next episode. I am fine with ditching sensational characters but I also think there are some deadwood characters that no matter how exciting they try to make them are still dull. I think SOC should have cleared out a few others but wants to keep mundane characters. I mean bringing back Derek and Libby kind of sums his style up. How many people were demanding these returns? Its like he thought of how's the most boring down to earth characters to bring back. |

I stopped watching about 3 months ago. Good characters had been 'disappeared I watched with a friend recently and couldn't believe Lee was still in it. He's such a weak character, one couldn't feel sorry for him. Not one workplace would not give you a day off to get married, what about the interview? Any holidays?'

Emmerdale's stunts have been a little sensationalist in my view but storylines like Ashley's dementia and Holly's drugs death have been outstanding

IMO Emmerdale is already far superior to EastEnders and Coronation Street, it may not always be reflected in the ratings and what not bur as you say it's very much on the up. It'sno bias when I say in comparison to the other two, it's strikes a better balance of character driven and issue led drama. The humour is more subtle than CS, excusing the sensationalism at the face you have more believable and likeable characters interwoven into good writing. The Ashley dementia angle far outweighs, any other UK soap plot line right now because of the quality of the acting, writing and the empathy you are gravitated to. EE may be trying to recapture it's roots but it lacks those components for me to push it on

I live the Character lead stuff but feel we need a hard hitting storyline. Although Lee's storyline is good

Stopped watching as of last night. Will probably tune in again around Christmas. Apart from Lee's depression storyline, there's really nothing else going on and I'm just bored of it. By all means let's have character-driven storylines as B and C plots, but A plots need to be more dramatic and front and centre, and Lee's is the only A plot at the moment. Unfortunately it's poorly acted and involved flimsy characters, so I've had enough.
