I was on board with SOC until I heard he was bringing Max Branning back. I ain't got time to suffer through another decade of that ginger twit.
Max coming back is the only thing keeping me interested

I'm enjoying the interaction between characters and a more naturalistic approach to the program but SOC needs to temper it with a little more intrigue and excitement.

At the moment it's all a bit flat.

It's terminally dull.
There's no doubt that the pace of the programme has slowed and that not a lot is happening at the moment, hence there being some truth in the above comment. However, for the long term sustainability of the show I think it is necessary for EE to abandon, or at least place less reliance on far fetched stunt driven plots and get back to being more character driven. It will take time but I think the payoff will be worthwhile. There is only so much murder, multiple death and mass destruction that a small community can experience (Corrie producers please note) and I think EE needs to be given some credit for trying to reign things in and deliver more credible drama.

EE tops the ratings for Tuesday, nearly 6 million.

I thought Tuesday's episode was great. Engaging from start to finish.

Likely the Halloween effect with EE hurt more as the other two have more old viewers. The other two are also coming off the back of a big storyline. The ratings for EE have mostly been fine under Sean O'Connor.

I've noticed on here that there is always an excuse where EE is concerned if it has bad ratings, especially if the other soaps are ahead.

There is no proof that its down to the age of viewers, the fact is its pretty boring right now. If people cannot accept that fact then there fair enough but there is no point cherry picking ratings to prove a point which is why I mentioned the ratings for Monday.

Well I follow ED avidly and generally enjoy it as well as EE so it's not a soap tit-for-tat situation for me. It's just a lot of myths get purported regarding EE's ratings with people quick to translate isolated lower than normal ratings into a crisis.

Aren't you 'cherry picking' ratings too by bringing up Monday? when the ratings have been mostly fine under SOC.

Over time soaps do suffer a dip when the quality is poor but it isn't a quick thing. That Monday rating was lower than normal for EE. I'd be more inclined to think it was something like Halloween at play than a quality issue given it was up again last night.

Oh give over. You've done exactly what you're moaning about others for doing.

I thought it was amazing EE beat Emmerdale considering it's so boring and half of this board - as well as outraged Twitter and Facebook users - was going to switch off...

Emmerdale will have beaten EastEnders in tape checked ratings for Tuesday. Due to ITV shows not running for the full slot due to adverts, whereas BBC shows normally do, the full slot average is lower which is what the figures show for Tuesday.

And EE was still not over 6 million which is poor for a Tuesday where it has no competition in that slot.

Well people have got that choice...they can either stay with the more realistic show or swap to a soap that will give them murder, mayhem and car crashes. Me, I'm sticking with it, I like the tone, I like the realism and I'm liking the characters. SOC has taken a brave step...let's see how it works out.

He's began slowly and made some big decisions.

I loved his handling of Les and Pam's exit. I thought their final weeks were very real and emotional.

He's given Kathy some backbone and made her stand up to people who keep trying to push her out of her son's life.

Given June Brown a serious storyline to get stuck into.

Made the big decision to axe Ronnie and Roxy. This means he's not boring, he has daring ideas, he just likes to bide his time.
