A load of kids who don't even live in the street will come around trick or treat-ing, this will produce big smiles from the resident (who are usually miserable gits) as they shut the door. Then the door will go again and the same character all filled with the Halloween spirit, will grab the treat bowl but GASP! it will be an unwanted visitor (ex/person they're having an affair with/mortal enemy/family member from the past) instead of kiddies.

If it is a 'blast from the past' they'll say "Trick or Treat" in a completely sinister and cringeworthy way.

I don't think that's necessarily restricted to Halloween.

True, but at any sort of a party in a soap it's bound to happen

Not a cliche but why don't soap villains ever acknowledge Halloween for their extra villainess?

Take EE for example with Gavin last year, would it have really hurt to have these simple lines

Kathy: Why are you doing this tonight?
Gavin: What better night then Halloween?

Only time I can remember was when Silias planned to kill on Halloween because it was Halloween but soaps should really have their villains articulate they are choosing to be more evil on Halloween because it's Halloween, it doesn't even have to go down the route of being a comedy line with the right wording and deliverance.
