Just seen tonight epsiode on bbc3 and it was great.

I'll admit i'm not adding much to the conversation about the show, but i'd like to say thanks to DenWattts, alrightmate and others, as the whole dabate/conversation/banter about the show has also added to the enjoyment of it all

Yes... an old git whose dad dies five days before his 15th birthday. If I'm being honest, I've never been right since... which is why I can sympathise with Rose a little (though that might change when I actually watch this episode)!

Much agreements there! These fora (forums?) have really added to my interest in this show. I just watched the first few episodes as any old tv show, but now I am always looking for clues...not that I tend to find any .

Oh and I loved the weird music that happened whenever the reapers appeared, it was sortof backwards or draining or something (I really can't describe things! )
Plus the design of the reapers was great, although I see no resemblance to a fish as was being described in DW Confidential...

One thing I have come to realise about this new series - this is ROSE'S story, not the Doctor's.

That's a horrible thing to have happen to you - my own dad went through much the same thing at 16 when his father died, and he admits that it has shaped his character a great deal

If you don't mind me making this link, I think that there is probably a line to be drawn in the character of Rose between the death of her father and her subsequent relationships with the men in her life. She definitely idolises the Doctor in some way, much the same as a lot of girls idolise their Daddy.

Well, we all add to the discussion, and I think it's wonderful that people take the time and trouble to contribute.

We all bounce ideas off each other - and every single person who posts adds to the overall 'picture'. Long may it continue!

The series wouldn't be half as much fun without the debate.

It certainly does seem that way. The emphasis seems to be always on Rose or from her perspective..you can see her grow from episode to episode as more and more things happen to her or she experiences new things. Smart move by RTD as it makes the viewers feel like they are taking the same journey with her. She does remind me a lot of Tegan in many respects..feisty yet vulnerable with it and certainly not afraid to speak her mind to the Doctor.

My money is still on Rose being the key to it all...perhaps she forces the Doctor to face up to his past and deal with his guilt once and for all.

As an old timer who has watched Dr Who since Series 1 Episode 1, I do NOT get emotional about them - no way, it just ain't that kind of TV. But tonight... I had tears in me eyes a few times.

This was one of the best ever and I went straight for the "Excellent" button in the poll (after first looking for an even higher rating )

Superb stuff.

I keep being sychophantic about Dr Who, but after last week's lull my enthusiasm wained a little. But it's back again now. Why can't all television be as excellent as this? 'Father's Day' was purely brilliant. It was plain and simple, yet really deep at the same time, stirring all kinds of emotions. A real rollercoaster that dipped its toe in waters that previous Doctor incarnations never really sampled. Reminded me of Quantum Leap and Red Dwarf in some ways. Any sci-fi fan worth his/her salt knows that you JUST DON'T monkey around with what has happened at any point in time before your own. Although it's all make believe, we don't know what really WOULD happen in such a scenario and that makes it so much edgier because the writers have the whole world to play with. Just what makes it such a beautiful subject to play with.

EXCELLENT television. I've been so chuffed by this TV series that I have forked out 50-odd quid for a remote control Dalek, which won't get to me for 5 weeks, because they are out of bloody stock everywhere, due to demand.

See what I mean?...... I'm quite sad. A true sychophant about a mere TV show.

I put that observation in as a one-liner on purpose, because I think it's hugely significant.

Rose loves the Doctor, the Doctor loves her (she KNEW he'd be back, even though he took the Tardis key off her and stormed off - did you see her smile when he came running back to find her, and the self-satisfied look on her face?)

This IS a love-story after all - something that RTD does so well, whatever the circumstances and situation he sets it in.

Rose will help the Doctor grow as much as he's helped her. She will indeed be his key!

Don't worry too much about trying to make sense of the temporal paradoxes. We're not Time Lords, and our brians aren't geared up to this kind of five-dimensional thinking. Just accept it, and enjoy the story on its own terms.

But I agree - this series has definitely been a love story of sorts. I can only imagine how jealous the Doctor will be when Rose gets swept off her feet by Captain Jack next week . But I'm actually beginning to wonder how Rose will react to a new Doctor - she feels so deeply about this one, so his next regeneration should prove to be very interesting. Almost like starting over, I guess - not only will we have to get to know a new Doctor, but we'll have to get to know Rose's relationship with him too.

I don't know a Brian, but if I did, he'd be geared up i'm sure!!

A love that transcends friendship but will never be consumated in a relationship...what they have is something more. Rose is just as instrumental in his development as he is in her journey. Think we are going to see a number of layers peeled away as we build towards the climax of the series and methinks it will all end in tears on both sides...

I can't help but feel that Captain Picard, Commander Riker and Mr Data, flying around in the starship Enterprise was so much simpler

I thought it was superb!

I really like the whole "Going back in time and changing the past" storyline, and it was very well done IMHO.

Some parts of it were very deatiled, i.e. The car which was meant to run Pete over, cirlcing round and going trhough that "portal" until it got to do what it was meant to.

I also thought the TARDIS becoming a normal Police box bit was quite Funny.

Hmm - they already have a relationship. She loves the fact that he doesn't limit her. (Even though he knows better.)

He's already taken her back to be with her father, and then he takes her back again.

Even though he knows he shouldn't.

He does simply because he wants to impress her.

He boasts "I can do anything I want" when Rose asks if it will break any 'laws of time.'

Think what I am trying to say is they do have a relationship but what they have is something more than lovers or friends.

I know - and £10 says they kiss!

I'm sure they will but a rather chaste kiss than tongues down the throat job!

Hmm... I'm not so sure.

(so why is Rose so defensive about the fact that everyone thinks they're together?

Even though she thinks other people think he's about 20 years older than her?

Would you really want to see that happen, though? Their relationship seems far more complicated than that. Plus Rose will be tied up with a smarmy American for the next few episodes...

Do we know much about Captain Jack, by the way? He's listed on imdb as being in it until the last episode, do we know if he'll be in the second series too? (Link, scroll down to the bottom)
