Or The Michaeangelo Code - Secrets of the Sistine Chapel

God it's going to be good next week - DW at 1830 and Eurovision at 2000 with the sem-final on Thurday!

Sci Fi has always dealt with the human state of being, emotions and caused emotional effects, I know that I cried my eyes out when Dax was killed on DS9

Just curious - we've had lots of views of the people who post here on the episode which has been almost entirerly positive, but to anybody who watched it with younger children what did they think of it?

I'd imagine there may be a few small children scared of going to the play ground now...

...in 2 months I'll be knocking 50, and have enjoyed the best and worst of Who since I was 8 and watched that first episode.

My bh came in and caught me blubbing - aw shucks! Nice to still be surprised by a TV series - even one which has descended into the pits of hell in the dim distant past (thinks Gel Monsters).

I sincerely hope that the Mill do the FX for series 2 - as someone above said - the FX complemented the story tonight. They did not detract or add to the story - just right and believable. Hope they shoot series 2 in hi-def as rumours suggest......

Aitch Voted Excellent this week compared to Good last week.

Thought it was a really good episode esp for the relationship with the dr and rose. I thought Billie Piper was bloody good tonight (like she usually is). The trouble however is that they are making the character of Rose more interesting than the Dr's. However I'm not complaining that much as Rose is the best companion

Don't apologise to me! I suppose EVERY episode cannot please EVERY viewer no matter how hard it tries.

For the first time i didn't have to think twice before voting for excellent. It was a great episode that just "worked".

For once the ending didn't seem rushed and although I have a major issues with the way it was wound up (the doctor appearing from nowhere Rose mum giving a new revised talk to child rose) this episode fitted perfectly into its time slot.

RTD promised us more down to earth human interest story lines and we got them (not that they should be too regular though)

Classy acting again, great performances from both Billie and Chris and a very emotional story. It's been said that the episode has a "'City on the Edge of Forever" feel, and while I'd agree with that, the reapers time-repairing storyline also reminded me of "The Langoliers" by Stephen King.

The special effects, for a BBC production, again blew me away. I particularly liked the 'glowy' Tardis effect in the church, along with the reapers themselves. Can you imagine what an 80's Dr. Who might have been like with effects like that ? Okay, maybe I'm stating the obvious but hey

Looking forward to next weeks. Rose falling from a plane/barrage balloon ?? Can the Dr. fly ?

Exactly...good Sci-fi does this sort of thing...but good sci-fi is hard to come by. You mention the death of Jadzia on DS9...that made me go a bit tery eyed, but the first Sci-fi to get me was the holographic memorial recording Tasha Yar made in the first series of TNG....seeing what she'd recorded for everyone before her death was very upsetting.

I certainlt think this series of Doctor who can battle it out in the emotional stakes with the best of them now as well as with the story and ideas.

That was even better than I could have hoped.

I think it's quite telling that even the people who thought it was poor were still captivated enough to watch the whole thing, AND then rush to the Internet with in minutes of it ending to post about it! Other shows would kill for that sort of reaction.

Exactly I'd rather watch Celebrity Wrestling then suffer that again

BTW, forgot to say earlier, I've been completely blow away by Billie Piper thoughout this series, in no way did I expect her to be this good, although I'd seen her in The Canterbury Tales and thought she was excellent. She's just been wonderful, and the relationship between her and the Dr is the making of the series, I hope, and believe, this can be kept going with David Tennent.

Think we are going to get a superman effect with Captain Jack saving her in his spacecraft (come back from the future - playing with time?)

The next week preview looked great (more zombies!), but couldn't they have resisted showing Rose apparently falling to her death whilst at the same time giving away how she survives!

Hvae we had as many posts as quickly as this after the programme? Nearly 200 in an hour? We might have, but I can't remember the thread growing quite so quickly...

They think the series is boring - and anything but 'scary'. And apart from 'unquiet dead' i agree. I would say the show has been a disappointment. but after hearing it was being revived i never had high expectations anyway. We'll be watching 'Star Wars' next week i think.

I did like the episode a lot, but not as much as the rest of the series (voted good rather than very or excellent for the first time)...

I guess the great thing about this series of Dr Who is that different episodes appeal to different people. I don't normally watch dramas (not serious ones anyway) - I'm more of a comedy and sci-fi fan, so I prefer the episodes that have more emphasis in those directions. That's why I think some people really didn't like this episope whereas others loved it - it depends on whether you tend to be a drama lover or a sci-fi or action lover (so there are comments from some people on not enough aliens or other planets, whereas from other people I never thought a sci-fi programme would get me so emotionally involved). For the series to be a popular success it needs to keep all the elements in each episode to a degree, so people aren't driven away - and I think its succeeding so far.

Drama is more mainstream, so the Radio Times seemed to like this episode more than last week's whereas I personally preferred last week's.

p.s. Was it just me who couldn't stop laughing at the ferengi ears comment about this doctor in last week's dead ringers?
