So if I went for a new Tv best to go for LG then, I do not like Samsung sets, I have not seen one that have impressed me.
Only if you wanted a mid-range set, Sony and Panasonic are generally far better than Samsung/LG.

The main problem with my Philips Plasma is that it uses a bit of juice compared to modern TV sets.
'Bit' is rather an under exaggeration

It probably uses 3 to 4 times as much as a similar sized modern set.

But as long as you're happy with the picture, and as you say the much larger size means the sounds is VERY much better, then that's all that matters.

The specs says 400watts,, I put a meter on it for a few weeks and not once did it get to that, the most was about 300, which is still a fair bit, but the TV may only be used for a hour a day if that, some days it is not used at all.

TBH, I have not really seen a TV i like apart from some of the OLED ones, but i am not paying that amount for a TV and even some of the OLED ones do not seem that great to be honest.

The figures in the specification are the absolute maximum (and probably a little pessimistic as well), you wouldn't expect a TV to run close to it in normal use.

At least a Plasma helps to warm your home (so reduces your heating bill a little).

I've fitted a few OLED ones, I can't say they impressed me in any way.
