The figures in the specification are the absolute maximum (and probably a little pessimistic as well), you wouldn't expect a TV to run close to it in normal use.
At least a Plasma helps to warm your home

(so reduces your heating bill a little).

I've fitted a few OLED ones, I can't say they impressed me in any way.
