Question about rechargeable batteries used in wireless telephones
Not strictly a 'mobile phone' post, although wireless home phones are mobile, so I wonder if anybody can tell me the current thinking on this, please ....
I read a while ago that it's a good idea to leave wireless phones off their chargers for a few hours every day, thus prolonging battery life. In pursuance of this advice I have for a few years now left the upstairs phone off its base overnight and, of course, the downstairs phone is with us in the sitting room during the evening anyway, so it's not on its charger for a few hours that way. I've just recently bought a new phone set because the old ones packed up pretty much overnight so, in the absence of any advice in the user guide, I'm continuing to leave the handsets off their bases for a few hours in every twenty four. Am I wasting my time bothering to do this anymore? Can current battery technology cope with being on full charge all the time? |

I leave the handsets charging on the base unless I need them elsewhere. Seem to require new batteries every few years but so what - they are a couple of AAA rechargeables and you get 4 or more for £1 in Poundshop.

Thanks misar .. doesn't exactly answer my question, but your point about the cost of AAA rechargeables is valid enough - they're not that expensive!

They use cheaper and simpler NiMH batteries and they're mine to be left on the base unit / charger all the time. The base unit will switch to a trickle charge when the batteries are near full so they won't overheat.
