Websites which aren't optimised for mobile - why?
Not sure if this is the right place for this post. However, it is indirectly about smartphones.
Question - why are websites such as DS not optimised for mobile. It isn't just DS of course, there are many more forums which are the same. You either have to have the eyes of superman or pinch to zoom which means half the text is off the screen. I think the people who make the websites should look at the BBC News app. There you have pages that are perfectly scaled for mobile. |

I still see websites designed for 800x600 so a lot of wasted column space.

on DS if you scroll down to the bottom where it says Digital Spy in a box, click it and you have the option of loading the mobile version instead.

![]() DS has always driven me mad on mobile, but that's much better. Why on earth doesn't it auto-detect a mobile browser I wonder? The little drop-down at the very bottom is incredibly hard to find. |

I've been using the DS mobile site from the off and never look at the desktop one now; bear in mind on it, it doesn't show your post count number ( if interested) or that you may have a P.M. unless you actually click on the tab to look.

Suddenly everything is now much clearer. I will look at some other websites to see if they offer the same options.

Because it requires more of an overhead to maintain. Or they don't know how to do it in the most effective way.
Probably written in an older style to an older standard and they don't have the resources. |

I doubt DS is written with HTML5.

Maybe if DS employed a more sensible ad strategy in place of the 'as many intrusive, resource hungry sh*t-ads we can serve' they would find more people switching off their ad blockers and providing revenue for site maintenance. Catch 22 really...
