I've seen plenty of forum members bigging up the Amy Barlow actress and without wishing to sound nasty, I just can't take to her. Tonight she was particularly bad, she was literally reciting lines as if she were reading them off a cue card IMO.

This was after a scene with Faye and her boyfriend which was Oscar worthy in comparison!

I know she's young and deserves a chance to hone her craft but I just don't get all the praise she seems to get!

She normally is rather good but the trying to act annoyed/upset or whatever it was meant to be next to the postbox was awful. The pet lip urgh just bad acting.

But then she is a kid and still learning and well she does so well with the other stuff she is given. She can be forgiven for what I hope is a one off.

I guess it will have been hard for a kid to act out something they will never have experienced, had feelings/thoughts about or quite possibly even understand at all

I agree and perhaps it was a bit premature to call out the actress. I agree that she's got good comic timing and decent delivery of her little one liners but she kinda reminds me of Tracy and I fear that they might make her a slightly one dimensional. Only time will tell!

Yeah, her performance tonight was hugely off-note, particularly that Godawful scene by the postbox. Having said that, she is still learning her craft and normally I find her quite an engaging little actress.

I was going to mention the postbox. What the hell was all that about? Did someone actually write that and direct that rubbish?

Not sure whether it's the actress or the writing/directing that's the problem. Corrie seem to want Amy to be a know-it-all smartarse.

Normally she's pretty good and quite naturalistic so maybe the post box scene was down to the director of the that particular episode.

I find her a lot better than the likes of Faye and Simon.

I find both those two far more natural personally!!
The way the Amy actress delivers her lines is just so forced to me, like the OP says it's like she's quite literally reading them as she's delivering them!!

I often wonder do they have an ear piece in and are fed the lines they have to speak which would account for their blank looks as they concentrate on the coaching they hear.

Yes, unconvincing and very annoying. Part of the problem is the unnatural-sounding dialogue that she is given to say.

I was laughing at the scene of her 'upset' in the street with Leanne and Robert. I turned to my mum and said that she's inherited the acting of her grandad.

The actress playing Faye has improved a huge amount and the writing for the character has been so much better since she's stopped being a brat.

The problem is the young actors on corrie only have the poor adult actors on corrie to take a lead from so you can't really expect them to be that good.

I usually quite like Amy and find her quite amusing at times but I agree that the scenes last night were cringeworthy.

She's fine when she's acting the 'everyday' stuff but I think it's becoming more apparent as she gets older that she's not so great when she has to act anything bigger and more serious. That's obviously going to become more of an issue as time goes by.

I think Simon's acting is passable, he was quite good with Ken last evening. I am not sure how or why Faye was casr, her performance is very poor. I have always been impressed with Amy, and, even though her last evening's perfromance was disappointing, she is still the best child actor in the show.

Her acting is wooden, it sounds like she's reading off of an auto cue and he character is cringeworthy. So many people slag off Faye Windass but there's no comparison in my opinion.

I agree. Amy delivers her lines like a robot. No emotion at all and the 'upset face' is hilarious. Just turning your mouth down all the while is not 'acting upset'

I think one of the problems is, the child actors on Corrie are given very little to do in their early years (if they appear at all) and just don't learn how to act and deliver lines.

I can remember Tracey, Nicky, Sarah Lou and David having much more to do when they were younger.

Not to mention Caz, and she's not a child actress. There's no excuse for her atrocious acting.

She has been awful for over two years now, when they decided out of nowhere to give her a personality transplant because what the show really needed was another Tracy.

The post box scene was just embarrassing to watch. She's a terrible actress! When are they going to recast her? They really need to.

I usually love Amy, but it was awful last night. I don't want to offend anyone when I say this, but I feel that she is struggling with the script not only because of the content of it, but also since she has had her braces in like some students I met when I worked in a school she is over emphasizing some of her words. It might be a subconscious thing or maybe she still finds them uncomfortable. I hope she turns this around soon, she normally blows the scenes away.

BIB: She's Brooke Vincent's cousin.
