She was also in Waterloo Road which was effectively a soap, if not a 'soapy drama'

Keeley Hawes had to work really hard and it's taken her a long time to get where she is. Maybe with a soap platform she would have got there quicker

But the leading actresses of the mo seem to be

Keeley Hawes
Jenna Coleman
Sarah Lancashire
Suranne Jones
Olivia Coleman
Sheridan smith

Out of them three have a soap backgrounds and two have a comedy role background. I don't think soap actors or soap work should be put down as they are, they work hard and there are a lot of very good performers

Well said!

I also thought that Kym Marsh was good this week.

If you want to be a serious access then your not going to get it by being in.EE or Corrie
Are you
In recently spoke to.a very famous 70s sit com star and I asked if they would be interested in soaps they said (or words to affect ).No way God no

Plenty of actresses/actors started in soaps and for many it was a platform on to bigger stuff.

A lot of the Corrie girls have done very well post exit obvious being Sarah Lancashire and Suranne Jones, Katherine Kelly and now Michelle Keegan are doing well and I expect Paula Lane to do the same.

Michelle Collins and Martine Mccutcheon, I think just had a very unfortunate time, they left at the height of EE both took very different directions.

Jenna Coleman and Joe Gilgun both started on ED for a couple of years and are both building up a good portfolio of work.

Hollyoaks also has a good up rise of actors going on to bigger work.

America is a huge example of actors starting out on soap operas and going on to incredible things.

I don't think soap is detrimental at all to someone career hard work is key, if your good and got the talent it will shine through.

I think she's perfectly fine acting wise but like Anna the character is far too unsympathetic to care about

I don't think I did, if I did I was just adding to what you said but it was earlier and I can't remember now

Ah okay I thought you'd got confused (you know in your old age ) and thought that I was one of the ones being 'snobby' about soap actors

I agree.

I think. And have always thought that Marsh is a competent actress but she isn't anything to write home about and I don't think last week was any different. She was okay but not great. Unfortunately I do find it hard to find Muchelle a sympathetic character, even when experiencing things that are very horrible and should inspire sympathy. I think this is a combination of the writing and Michelle's styling and demeanour which I do find quite hard

I agree OP, I'm no fan of the character or the actress but it must have been so difficult filming those scenes given her experience. When she was talking about not being able to cope with giving birth to a baby that might die, I thought it was very close to home for her.

I think she does a good job overall, she's not Dame Judy but there's far far worse on Corrie.

I would add the wonderful Joanne Froggatt to that list!!
About to star in yet another powerful drama starting after Corrie tomorrow night!

Zoe Tattersall may not be remembered as a major Corrie icon but she was very well acted & was the springboard for what has become a glittering post-Corrie career!!

sorcha_healy knows that, she was comparing the character of Michelle to the character of Anna, it might be an idea to go back and read her post

Yeah I know thanks. As Ben pointed out I was making the point that neither characters are very sympathetic so I don't really care about what happens to them

We at least know Anna isn't one of the wooden actors like Michelle or she would have burned right down to her stumps.

I did but thanks for the suggestion anyway
Nothing in her post suggests that she was comparing Anna to Michelle.

Edit. I missed the word "like"
It makes sense now.

It obviously made sense before given others managed to grasp what I was saying.

I've always rated Kim Marsh and I felt sorry for her after she first joined as they clearly planned on getting Michelle and Steve together for the long haul but then Katherine Kelly came along and they paired Becky with Steve instead leaving Kim with little to do for years.
