Bought my wife the Echo for Christmas. Agree that sound quality is very good but please don't bother trying the search facility. Stay with "OK Google" because this device can tell you nothing.

My daughter even asked it when is twelfth night this morning and all we got was the stock answer "I cannot help with that". Two seconds later I had the answer on OK Google.

Very disappointing to be honest.
i think the statement 'this device can tell you nothing' is a bit over the top, but I know what you mean. Funnily enough, I had asked the exact same question 'when is twelfth night' on Christmas day, and got the exact same result!.
Apart from from a few other random questions, it's answered everything else no problem.

It has limitations of course, but generally we are loving it here. A few wi-fi smart plugs scattered around, with one connected to the bathroom wall heater which is proving itself to be a real hit the last couple of cold mornings. 10 minutes before you go in... "Alexa, switch on the bathroom heater!". Lovely

It can tell you when the end of the world is though. (See Season 2 TV series Mr Robot).

Really. It can. Just ask it/her!

I quite like my dot for music streaming, yes I know I could do it from my phone Its also useful for occasional facts, like what is 240 f in centigrade kind of stuff - saves pulling the phone out.

But one thing is annoying the heck out of me. I have an old AV receiver, so have a bluetooth receiver plugged in. I only use this for music otherwise its off.

I want to connect to the bluetooth receiver when I am using the AV, use internal dot speaker at any other time,

Aha I hear you cry, simples. Just tell Alexa to disconnect bluetooth. Yes, but guess what, the sodding bluetooth receiver automatically re-connects! This mutes the internal speaker!

Why oh why can't I say Alexa, turn off bluetooth. Alexa turn on bluetooth. Just like disabling/enabling bluetooth on a phone.

So for now I am using an IFTTT plug socket to turn off the Bluetooth receiver on the AV unit
