Chantelle - was she changed by Fame or was she just fame hungry?

Hi folks, just rewatched CBB4 in honour of Mr Burns passing, and to rewatch the best series ever imo! So the series was ultimately won by non celebrity Chantelle, and I must say from somoeone who really HATEs the fame whore/wannabes that come on the show, I actually thought Chantelle was so genuine and lovely. For a girl also who was stuck in a house with some intimidating, much more famous then she was celebreties and they were fairly famous people in this series, she handled herself really really well, and was actually quite astute in seeing people for what they were.

Some folks opinion at the time was she was more calculating and was just another fame hungry wannabe?

I myself think she was a very genuinely nice girl who just got lucky in a way, sadly I think fame did change her after the house, hooking up with Alex Ried.....ughhh....havent seen a lot of her recently now mind.

What are other folks opinions on her?

She was desperate for fame (at any price). She modelled herself on Paris Hilton, & her whole life, pre BB, was gearing up to have 'fame'.

That's true but she still came over as very likeable. On UBB too.

I agree with that, but nevertheless fame was always her mission in life. And fair play to her, she achieved that.

I don't think that affected her as I'm not sure she knew who they were.

George Galloway, Dennis Rodman and Rula Lenska were just names to her once she went in.

I doubt she'd ever heard of them previously.

She may have heard of Faria Alam due to her tabloid notoriety after her dalliances with Sven Goran Eriksson.

Sadly, fame hungry. Genuinely nice person.

Interesting to see folks opinions, I guess she was interested in fame, hence why apply for Big Brother but I suppose somewhat bizarrely to me she came across as not very fame hungry in the house. Just a very genuine nice girl, who I think was very emotionally astute.

I think the horrible side of fame sort of enveloped her when she did become famous, and perhaps didn't really understand the true price of what she would give up for fame.

That may be true, but I doubt she came across someone as confident and intimidating as Pete, or a an experienced politician like George or someone with an ego and aggressive as Denis, or someone as nuts as Barrymore!

I thought for someone who never probably met anyone like that ever in her life, she handled them all especially those four very well, and came across with more composure and common sense then the four of them put together!

I wouldn't disagree with that.

She deserved the win in 2006.

Chandelle took full advantage of her win in CBB and why shouldn't she? Unfortunately for her she was in a CBB that the summers normal BB won out with an NTA award and she was up against Nikki who also won an NTA which took a lot of the spotlight off her win!

Yeah she tried hard to resurrect the fairytail with Preston in CBB but he and the public were not having it!

Was she a worthy winner of CBB4 not really because the GBP thought it funny a non celeb won!

yeah i think she definitely wanted to be famous but i also don't think that makes someone a bad person. it just depends on how you go about it and i thought chantelle was very normal and genuine and i was pleased that she won. i only don't like fame hungry people when they are clearly trying to be something they aren't.

When I think of Chantelle the word "astute" does not spring to my mind I have to say.

And I am sure you are right.

Chantelle was a worthy winner - good natured, funny and laid back. She was very likeable and came across really well. I think Preston may have sapped the spirit out of her. He was cute, back in the day, but a bit draining and I wasn't surprised that they didn't last.

Re Preston, I always got the impression he was the much guiltier party in milking of their relationship. He dumped his fiance, a week later hooked up with Chantelle, he seemed very happy to garner publicity if it helped his band. He also when resurecting his band about a year ago, continued to mention her in articles....anything to get back in the spotlight - he always tried to come across an educated muso above it all, but was a big time hypocrite.

She was actually very emotionally aware and astute, called Denis out on his arrogent and nasty nature, called George out on his completely and utterly childish over reactions in the house, and questioned how he was ever an MP, also handled Barrymore's crying self pitying calmly and strongly. She came across very well in her interactions with an unstable and on the edge group of housemates imo!

Completely agree, it was like once he had Chantelle he started feeling she wasn't good enough for him, and his presentious ways....

Yes of course she wanted fame but like many who achieve it she then found that perhaps it wasn't as great as she thought. In fact it hasn't really done her any favours at all. She would probably be happier without it.

That may be the case - but let's just say that your idea of "astute" is not the same of mine and leave it at that.

I agree with all the positive comments re Chantelle. One attribute which always stood out for me though was that she was tough, a characteristic sadly lacking in the weaklings cast the following summer.

She's rode every footballer around since she got fame.

I agree that she came across likable on the first BB she did. But on UBB she came across as a right brat, constantly crying all the time. Could have been fake crying as there was no way she was being genuine in there.

I doubt that - no Justin Fashanu for a start
