Absolutely nothing, because they only monitor the viewing habits of a few hundred people. Out of which probably a dozen watch HO, judging by the 'official figure' which say it gets around a million viewers on average.

I've always wished there was some way of getting genuine figures of how many people actually do watch all the soaps, I suspect the reality would be very different than the figures given!
It would have been easier to do when people just watched the telly when the programme was on. Impossible these days with so many ways of watching, so that make the official figures even more useless.

Hollyoaks may go overboard but they write characters as good as any other soap. Nobody changes personality over night or within a week.

No I don't think soaps will be like Hollyoaks. The difference with Hollyoaks is that the show feels more daring to do different things. Not saying its good. Just they seem to be experimental. Not sure the likes of EastEnders and Coronation Street would ever risk alienating viewers by copying Hollyoaks.

There's amazing people with stunts, unexpected deaths etc and then there's chasing ratings for the sake of chasing ratings.”

Brookside suffered because it was easy to axe it as it was on channel 4 which back then particularly 'no one watched' If Brookside had been on BBC or ITV it would probably still be going strong.

Hollyoaks will survive because it's the only soap aimed at teens.

Didn't they used to say the omnibus on sunday was the favourite viewing of hungover students?

I get that HO is a teen soap and it's ok if you don't like it but sometimes the comments I see from other people about the fans of the soap are not that nice.

To be accurate they were only called soap operas because soap manufacturers like Procter and Gamble sponsored them. Stands to reason they would want drama to reflect their products. Thinking about it how often does the drama take place in or around a lauderette or kitchen.
I don't think HO is the future because it doesn't seem to know where it is going. Personally I liked the the era of using special visual effects. It seems to be going for the realistic style but with unrealistic serial killers developing on a whim.

I disagree. Under Kirkwood so many characters have undergone major personify transplants. The writing has been decent the past half a year but between the end of 2013 and the start of this year the writing has been all over the place.
