I remember being absolutely blown away by Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay on the original Xbox, it would be nice to feel like that about a game again.
Unfortunately the Riddick sequel was poop! |

Highly unoriginal but Final Fantasy 7.
I remember playing 8-10 hours of it and being amazed by it and the story - then I reached the point where you leave Midgar and discovered the world map for the first time - mind blowing.........It felt like nothing I'd ever played before, and to be fair since. |

For me it would be the first Silent Hill game. Inching around, waiting for the radio static and wondering what was going to appear from the fog. |

This is a really good question.
I'm sure we're all different gamers than we were back then because the games already played affect how we feel about new games going forward, we're constantly comparing. If I was to think about it in terms of how I as a gamer now would receive this game for the first time I would say Red Dead Redemption. It's the one game I could play for the first time today in a post ps4 world and not feel like I've gone backwards. That's not to say it's my favourite game but I think it will stand the test of time. If we're talking about playing an entire series for the first time and still enjoying it as much or more as we did back then that would have to be the Batman Arkham games or GTA. The Arkham games are unlike any other, it's combat has been duplicated so many times and the way it works both as an adaptation of a source material and a video game is just amazing. And GTA... nuff said. |

Life is Strange. The characters, the world, the storyline were all utterly captivating the first time playing and I'd love to feel that again.
Honourable mentions to the N64 platform games...Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie etc. |

Ultima Online - the first MMO I ever played. I have played virtually every MMO there has been and I still think Ultima Online is the best - maybe Dark Age of Camelot a close second!

Halflife 2 passed me by, it wasnt until episode 2 came out and I played that and loved it. Then i played through episode 1. Then i discovered there was a halflife 2. Great few months. Love to play that series again but this time in order.

I played all those with The Orange Box in 2007, what an amazing collection that was. Hard to believe 9 years later there's still absolutely no sign of a new Half Life game!

I'll have to say Deus Ex. I'd never played anything like it and even the follow up Deus Ex games have failed to come close to it. The feeling of freedom and the feeling that your play style and decisions actually mattered (going into the women's toilets and a woman in there saying "don't think I won't report this" and then your boss later telling you to stay out of the women's toilets was awesome)

Hmm, toss up between the first Tomb Raider on the PS, Doom on the PS, Zelda: Link To The Past on SNES, or Far Cry 2 on the PC - with notable mentions to Silent Hill and Resident Evil on the PS.
I think it has to be Zelda. |

The Last of Us. I can't think of any other game where the narrative and storytelling has gripped me in such a way.
