FIFA bans poppies on shirts for the England v Scotland match
On the grounds of: Quote:
The game's world governing body bans political, religious or commercial messages on shirts.
Well, I suppose it's fairly easy to come to such unfeeling decisions, when the country in which you are based spent the wars storing stolen money for murderers, while our men fought and died to preserve freedom. We should tell them where to go. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37832115 |

I suppose they have no objections to the message that they were sending when many of their representatives were coining it in through dodgy handshakes?

Do we ignore some rules and take notice of others? |

If they wore armbands with poppies as a workaround a few years ago, surely just do that again?

Does wearing the poppy fall into any of the categories mentioned ? It's certainly not religious. I don't see that it's political either. I thought the poppy these days has become a symbol of remembrance for all the war dead, not just the British.

Its not a new rule, so the media are mis-reporting by making out that FIFA have suddenly turned around and banned the wearing of poppies this year.

Have the first critical articles about James McClean started appearing yet? |

Here we go again, almost like clockwork, each and every year we always get stories like this cropping up.
It is just so tedious, wear them or don't wear them, it should be up to anyone to decide, FIFA or anyone else should have no jurisdiction over this. |

Alas that won't be enough for The Sun and its media cohorts who turned this molehill into a mountain a few years ago and are singularly determined to do the same thing again this time round.

Fifa should have the ability to understand that the poppy is not political, although this is Fifa.
Our FA's should stand up for right here, and allow the wearing of the poppy. Who actually is against it, and claims it to be political? |

The poppy is NOT
A symbol of death or a sign of support for war A reflection of politics or religion Red to reflect the colour of blood |

While the majority of people in the UK don't view this as political there are others in the world who do.
FIFA is a worldwide organisation and has to be seen to be fair to all the countries who participate. If the UK nations were permitted to use a symbol like this it could open it up to other countries who may wish to commemorate groups or individuals that those in the UK may find objectionable. |

I agree with FIFA that they shouldn't have them on shirts
It's alright for us to say 'this is our symbol, so of course it's OK' but what if some Islamist country decides to put a symbol remembering their glorious dead suicide bombers or sometime in a different future the Irish Republic decides to have a symbol remembering the IRA Volunteers who gave their lives for a United Ireland It's a slippery slope to base on argument on 'ours is alright because we're British but those foreigners should be banned from doing it' |
