I read Wales and Northern Ireland are just going to wear black armbands as a mark of respect for fear of being fined or losing points.
Be interesting to see if UEFA really do punish us and the Scots. |

I see England U21 are wearing a black arm band tonight with poppy, so if any charges are to be brought, they should be brought against them first.

Would anyone actually weep if we were banned from international?

I can't be arsed with friendlies, but I watch England's competitive games. I know that we've been pretty dismal at major tournaments, for years, but I'd still rather that we were there. As good as USA '94 was at times, I hated the fact that England weren't in it. |

Argentina only got a fine for holding a banner about the Falkland Islands so id expect a similar fine here. Anymore would be ridiculous.

I'm still wondering what on earth this has to do with football?

I see the Home Nation rugby teams wore poppies, without anyone claiming they were making political statements, and no threats from their organisations. Common sense applied.

Same for the crickets and Andy Murray had one on too...
No wonder these sports look down and football and just think "what a joke" at times. I wonder if we did get docked points or fined how UEFA will deal with Romania after this very serious incident. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ieEjQ8Te6g |

So I await to see an armband with an Isis symbol, remembering those who martyred themselves for their cause. Football should be free of all this garbage, whatever side you are on. |

You allow one, you allow all.

I've never seen the poppy as a jingoistic symbol, otherwise I would probably agree with you. I would actually have no problem with Iraq remembering their war dead providing it was done in the same manner. |

None of this matters, the fa cannot suddenly decide they are wearing a symbol , one that is highly charged and political, against the regulations of FIFA.
Fifa cannot allow them to, as they leave themselves open to all sorts of symbols, each of equal merit, yes even Isis, (as much I I personally find them abhorrent myself). |

And yes FIFA can allow them to if they wish to and no it wont leave themselves open to anything as they choose who they punish and why they punish and how they punish them |

It's not highly charged or political.

That is your opinion but I hate to remind you that your opinion is not worth more than somebody elses who might think that you are wrong and thinks that it is political.
I would honestly like to know how anyone could find wearing the poppy, or the sentiment behind it, is political. What political viewpoint does it represent ? Some people see the illegal invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq etc as a terrorist act therefore it is a perfectly fair comparison. |

Bringing up ISIS is a bit mad, but I guess when the subject already relates to Nazis Godwin's Law states you have to find an alternative.

The ISIS point is taking the discussion in a very extreme direction, but I can't say I disagree with the general underlying point.

Nor would I, it's just been a little obscured with a layer of hysteria.

They dont know what a terrorist act is then, and it is far from a fair comparison.
But of course we dont seem to want to put tony blair on trial for that, or the soldiers who committed it. If people see the poppy as political, as i do, then it is quite inflammatory to have it on your shirt during a football match for goodness sake. IF the poppy was a symbol of just remembering those who were conscripted and died during the second world war, I would be all for it. They actually did die fighting for the freedom of the UK. But it still would have no place on a football shirt. But as it stands, the poppy is used to remember full time soldiers who got paid for , and died, during wars that were unlawful - see iraq and Afghanistan, and you could add Libya and Syria to the list too according to some. Its too politically charged to have any place in football. |

I see Stan Wawrinka wearing a poppy at the tennis, whilst playing against a Japanese player. The tennis authorities seem to have more class than FIFA, but then again, who doesn't?
