Should work as a normal Freeview+ pvr. Whether you can get all the HD channels depends on what transmitter you will get channels from and the reception conditions. And of course the new property having a working aerial. Only some main power transmitters have the COM 7 and COM 8 mux and these are lower power than the other Mux.

Check your new postcode here.

Any BT-specific recordings that you have on your hard drive won't replay after your contract ends apparently, but the Freeview recordings will continue as normal. As Graham pointed out, whether you continue to receive all the channels depends on where your new address is. If it is within the coverage of a main transmitter, or one of the bigger relays, you should get the lot. If in a Freeview Light area, it will still get most of the major channels, but not all.

You may only lose those recordings made from the BT TV specific channels. Any recordings you made from the Freeview channels (BBC, ITV C4 C5 etc) should be OK.

You have to have BT Broadband to have BT TV

No, you need to get a BT Broadband package if you want to watch BT TV.

I expect so, but you won't receive any of Plusnet's pay tv services. The box should function (more or less) as a Freeview Play box. YouView boxes cannot receive all of the Internet-based channels that are available on Freeview, although it does receive some of them. You should be able to record and replay Freeview programmes.

It would work if you had plusnet TV (well extra channels would). I use ex BT hardware with TalkTalk and it works fine.

I am thinking of signing up with BT before midnight tonight. Does this post mean a BT customer can keep the BT Youview box when their contract is up?

You can for now, but if/when BT take over youview that may just change

I can't see any changes happening Regarding Freeview PVR functionality. What about all those who bought Retail Youview Boxes ?

Exactly, but even ex-BT TV customers were led to expect that it would operate as a standard Youview box on cancellation. I can't see how they would be able to get away with nobbling their boxes post-contract unless before providing a new box, they clearly stated this in their promotional material and T&Cs.

They are unlikely to want to either, as it's something to differentiate their TV service from that of Sky and VM... the high level of continued usefulness of the box after cancelling.

It will just record Freeview off air but internet channels may not be available especially subscription ones, it may or may not be compatible with such services from another internet provider. Obviously you will no longer get box updates from BT but you may from another provider if they use the same software. If you are bothered about BT hobbling your box, an idea I think is ludicrous, don't connect it to your router.

You are mistaken.
The BT updates still be received from BT via a non-youview ISP's internet connection. There are reports online to the contrary of what you are claiming and I can vouch from personal experience with BT badged DTR-T1000, DTR-T2100 and DTR-T4000 all receiving the BT updates when not using a youview ISP that the authors of those reports are not making it up.

Are you sure they are from BT and not the box manufacturer or any other third party?
