EE: Will you miss Claudette Hubbard?
Her final scenes aired tonight, are you sad to see Ellen Thomas leave EE for a 3rd time?
![]() I had such high hopes for this "matriarch" character, as DTC put it. No nonsense, strong personality and a foster parent which I found interesting. I liked the idea of it opening up a range of possible new characters. As much as I enjoyed Mother's Day 2016, making Claudette a killer automatically put a restriction on how long her character could last for which is a shame ![]() They should have kept her as a feisty, non-murdering character and Vincent as a rival to Phil. |

I will miss Claudette Hubbard and i will also miss her two mates who were way more interesting than her. And when they appeared in an episode with Claudette they were that good that i could not take my eyes off them

Her exit was pretty lame.

The character originally had great potential but was wasted and ultimately destroyed by the writers and the ridiculous "buried under the floorboards" nonsense. In the end they didn't appear to know quite what to do with Claudette and her departure was similalrly a bit meh. While it looks like the door has been left open for a possible return I don't think they should bother unless there is a significant rethink about the purpose of the character and her story arc is well thought through rather than appearing to be made up on the hoof.

A potentially great character but another ruined by DTC. I can't believe anyone appreciated his time in charge ruining every single character.

I was hoping there would be a reference made about what happened to Fatboy, when Vincent said about Claudette wanting Patrick hurt.

Nope. She could have been a fantastic character; she was played by a good actress and and she certainly had an iconic 'look' about her. But that's pretty much it as far as her positive points went. The retconning of EE history was bad enough but they even retconned her actions during her time on the show. To go from having Vincent and Patrick discover exactly what she was like, and attempt to bury her body, to them welcoming her back into their homes and in Patrick's case starting a romantic relationship with her, was absolutely ridiculous and clear evidence of how much DTC's era lost the plot towards the end.
I'm glad Patrick, Vincent and Donna all saw through her in the end but honestly, they should have sent her packing the moment she tried to make a return. |

I thought she was great when she arrived but she ended up as one of DTC's many casualties. So while I'll miss what might have been I won't miss what she became.

She sounded a much better character on paper than on screen and it's no fault of Ellen Thomas. Mixing her up with the Mitchells, killing her husband and coming back from the dead were things that were not needed. Being a foster mother and a meddling mother in law was sufficient enough for the character. |

I think she had potential but she was pretty much turned into cartoon character. I liked her exit. As she wanted Vincent to "sort out" Patrick for humiliating her, that WAS Claudette.
I hope this exit is only 6-9 months as Ellen Thomas says, because I think she should be back and stronger than ever after the character is rested for a bit. I could imagine her running the Vic with Vincent and Kim. |

I see Claudette as a wasted opportunity. She could have been a great matriarchal figure with a ruthless streak, and Ellen Thomas exceeds at camp OTT drama. But DTC/Lamb's reckless storylining killed the character.
Elly's post summed it up perfectly. It's a genuine shame. |

Great character, great actress, written badly. When she was good she was awesome. Bring her back but write her character consistently. I'd like to explore why she behaves like she does and is so unstable.

I will miss her. Apart from her being the hottest GILF I've ever clapped eyes on she was the right side of campy and I enjoyed that. I agree though that the killing her husband/being buried storyline damaged her. Maybe she can come back as a reformed character one day.

No, I find her incredibly dull, her evil side is meant to be justified because she had a crush on Eric Mitchell years ago? Also Vincent forgave her quite quickly for killing his dad and his mate. Typical Eastenders writing.

She is also the reason behind Fatboy getting killed, she is just pure evil.
