If everyone affected keeps posting in the "Need help? Ask the Digital Spy team" section (at the very top of the main forum page), surely this will prompt them to take it seriously and actually do something.

Amazingly my iPad is not suffering this?!
And I don't have any extra blocking software either.

Don't tempt fate David. My iPad didn't suffer until yesterday. Hope you're keeping your fingers crossed.

Thanks to JasonWatkins' advice, I've now downloaded Weblock to my 'old' iPad2 and 'Hey Presto' the problem has been resolved and all the other irritating ads on DS have disappeared.

Happy Days.

Thanks for your advice Jason. I'll have a look at the link and Weblock.
My iPad2 is using iOS 9.3.5 which is the latest update sent to me.
I have an ipad 2 and Weblock. Weblock doesn't help one iota in this case. Getting pop ups whilst sending this post.

I've experienced a similar pop up on the MET office weather site - an adfoundation.xyz pop up saying I'd been selected for a free ap. I closed it but rather annoyingly this closed the MET office site too.

Argh! It's started happening in DS too. Hitting the back button gets rid of it.

If, for whatever reason, you can't download it then try using the ghostery browser. that's compatible with 2nd generation iPads and will achieve the same result.

What exactly isn't working with Weblock ?. The majority of posts i've read on various other forums say it works fine with an iPad 2.

This is still ongoing? At this point it's beyond ridiculous.

I've had this since yesterday. Disabling JavaScript seems to work as a temporary fix.
It's not satisfactory, you will probably need it for browsing other sites so will have to return to settings and toggle it back on when finished.

It's still doing it! What are DS doing about it?

As I reported earlier, it was also happening at the MET office site. I emailed them. They replied within the hour saying they were looking into it and the problem appears to have gone away this evening.

I started getting this on both my iPads, only when viewing Digital Spy Forums. I installed Ad Blocker Plus and never received the pop up again.

I reported the issue to DS support team yesterday. Received an acknowledgment by email but had nothing since.
Did search the Forums late last night and found two other similar threads back in October complaining about the same issue. DS don't seem to have made much progress in stopping it if it is still happening one month later.
I'm just grateful that the advice DS member JasonWatkins' gave me fixed the problem on my iPad2.

I tried downloading ad guard but it's not compatible with my iPad.

Frankly if DSS can't be arsed to do anything about it then I can't be arsed with DS.

Have people not realised yet? DS don't give a single **** about the forums and if they work as intended or not. They've effectively left them to die a long, slow death. Just look at how outdated the forum software is, how amateurish the layout is and how long it is since the place had something as simple as a functioning search function.

I have this problem, it's so annoying I couldn't stay on the forums last night. I sent a post to DS but haven't had a reply. I'm wary about downloading ad blockers as I've had problems with them in the past.

The pop up is happening on my iPhone and iPad

A few years ago I downloaded a blocker onto my then PC and it basically destoyed it. I'd rather lose DS than my iPad!

Be interested to hear recommendations that work with this pop up though as it's so annoying ... it's doing it now while I write this

I can't believe Digitial Spy have failed to do anything about this or reply in one of the threads. They didn't bother to reply to my 'contact us' report either and that was 2 weeks ago.

These scam adverts take you off the forum with no user interaction, then bounce you through several domains and then take you to the store even though you didn't click anything. You end up being taken out of the application you were in and off to the store to some app which was free anyway.

Is it time to start reporting DS as mallicious to site advisor sites?

Time to vote with our feet and move to AV forums or elsewhere?

I'm fed up with DS letting this place fall to ruin, it sounds like they couldn't give a toss anymore so why should the users? Turn all your ad blockers on and to hell with it, go to somewhere that does care and is going to block mallicious ads?

That's unusual that you had that level of trouble with an adblocker. I can only maybe guess it wasn't one of the two main recognised ones?. Those being uBlock (the best one) or AdBlock Pluse (the one everyone just defaults to ) ??.

Anyway, I would recommend AdGuard for the latest version of iOS as you can have selectable filters, or WeBlock for older versions.
