I have this problem, it's so annoying I couldn't stay on the forums last night. I sent a post to DS but haven't had a reply. I'm wary about downloading ad blockers as I've had problems with them in the past.
Same here. As I said (above) I've found a temporary solution by disabling JavaScript whenever I want to come on DS. But that effects other browsing so it's not a real answer to the problem.
I'm not going to download an ad blocker, I've read too many reports of problems occurring afterwards..slowing things down etc. DS should have sorted this out by now, or at least informed members of when it is likely to be fixed.

What I hate is that sites like this force users to make the site usable, but I and many others understand that ads are what fund other sites and if they aren't in the way I don't care about them as they help keep the sites going.

There should be a way to punish only irresponsible and malicious ads, the ones which close Safari and open the play store, the ones which cover the content you're trying to see. Those sites deserve no revenue from that kind of lack of control or respect for their users.

If, for whatever reason, you can't download it then try using the ghostery browser. that's compatible with 2nd generation iPads and will achieve the same result.

What exactly isn't working with Weblock ?. The majority of posts i've read on various other forums say it works fine with an iPad 2.
I meant I have Weblock already installed on my ipad2 but it's not stopping these pop ups. I reported it to Weblock and they replied that I should:

Settings. Safari. Clear history and website data.
Then change to Allow from Websites I Visit (which I already had)

So far whilst writing this I've received no pop ups. So who knows. Maybe the demon pop ups have been eradicated in any case.

Btw Weblock is very good, and they respond quickly to emails.

The overwhelming majority of people have no issues with adblockers. It seems a bit daft to cause yourself problems based on what I would honestly wager is a minority opinion.

It's worth experimenting with other content blockers as well. Google around to see what works with a 2nd Generation iPad. I think i've tried about a dozen different content blockers on my iPhone before I settled on AdGuard.

I've recently bought "lifetime" access to a VPN as well which can also double as a content blocker if need be.

I'm sure adblockers work perfectly well for the majority of people. But we've got three generations of iPads and never needed them before. I always work on the principle that it's just something else that could go wrong, so why bother ?
If I'd had problems with other sites, I wouldn't hesitate. But it's only been DS (so far) for a couple of days, I'd sooner wait for them to fix it. Just out of interest, do you find adblockers improve your browsing experience in general ? I always had one, along with other security software on my computer. I've just never found the need on my tablet.

I certainly do respect your viewpoint about them

To answer your question, I do think it improves my browsing on my iPhone a great deal. The pages load quicker and I save data as well because it doesn't have to download the various bells and whistles associated with the advert.

Thanks. I might take a look around and give one a try. I suppose it's easy enough to delete if you find it irritating ? Thing is, I'd want something I can just download and forget about it, no messing around with lists of websites to block etc.

The content blockers on Safari are just that - download, switch on and forget.

Some of them do have optional white and blacklisting options so you can allow and block individual sites, but you can usually add those options to the middle 'sharing' icon at the bottom of the Safari page and do two taps to add or block the site.

And you can delete them in the same way you delete any app - Safari just adjusts automatically.

Oh right, thanks for your help. It's always great to find a forum member who is prepared to take the time to help others.

(Sorry, can't do a smiley, probably because I've disabled JavaScript)

PSssssssst! The pesky popups seem to have gone away. Can this be true? Or are they still lurking?

Hello Andrew1954,
Weblock is working great since I downloaded it and I was initially still getting instant email notifications relevant to the threads I was following.
However, for the last few days, I have not received any email notifications from DS. Do you know what might be causing this and how to fix it?
I don't know whether DS has deactivated this option on my account to be spiteful because I had complained about the irritating pop-ups. Or may be it is something else and I am just getting paranoid about DS not helping Forum members?
