I'd be more concerned with that being the case if the story was:
- Robert keeps it secret and lies about it because he has feelings for Rebecca and is tempted to get with her.
That isn't the story. It isn't even about Robert and his feelings/lies.
The story they're actually telling is:
- Rebecca is spiteful and is doing her hardest to break them up.
So what would be the purpose of Robert lying story wise?
