I don't "hate" anything or anybody, and certainly nothing as trivial as a soap, but I won't be pusillanimous and try to overlook the boring trivial stories we have been subjected to (especially Zac and Lisa, Rakesh and all the Kerry nonsense) and pretend good outweighs bad, because, in my opinion, the reverse is true. Robron are excellent, Ashley is a sad but increasingly relevant story, but for the rest. The "lunchtime dating" story, for example, was worthy of an old ITV situation comedy - it just needed George and Mildred or Robin and the two girls.*
The truth is the show has an inexperienced producer (an associate on
Hollyoaks is hardly the first division of TV), it churns out six episodes a week, as opposed to 4 for
Eastenders and 5 for
Coronation Street, and by definition, less goes onin a village than a town.
There needs to be a cull of some of the dead wood, and less kiddy-centric stories. Last night they made the Jimmy/Nicola farce even worse.
