They are horrible. Very bitter. Cheffy types seem to rave about them for some weird reason.
Because no one else would bother. So they have cachet.

I often wonder who actually prepared the first artichoke. It seeems like an awful lot of faff for little return. Mind you, it's not as brave as the first person who opens an oyster & thought "yum"!

I think I would be bamboozled too if I was asked to cook something like that.. Although I can't stand artichokes so haven't cooked them anyway..lol

Chap had artichokes, and dust, and was starving. After a one hundred goes he discovered there WAS a way to eat them.
