I wonder if any of them are fired when they return to their restaurants after they are sent home first.
Ooh that's something I hadn't thought about, I would imagine they would have to go with their cap in their hands and screwing up the dishes.

Ooh who's James Zafir?

The young kid was favoured as he's a nice lad!
Have to agree. He completely blew the first challenge and produced good flavours in the second. Two of the 3 who went home did better. He'll be completely out of his depth in the next round. With training he could be great.

Great start, lovely to see the young 'uns Josh and Ellie giving the oldies a run for the money.

The junior sous chef is showing the head chefs a thing or two.
She's a small fish in a BIG pond.

The others are the opposite.
Yep, I think it was mentioned she was junior sous chef at a Michelin-starred restaurant. Quite the opposite of the others, and it showed.

What the hell is a sea vegetable? Is it samphire and seaweed?
And sea buckthorn which has been appearing in professional cooking comps for a while now. Sea purslane, something called dulse, nori and so on. Think the setting agent agar agar is classed as a sea vegetable too.

The most of enjoyable part of Masterchef is the ones who hype up their position and experience (keep expecting a Head Chef on a Gourmet Burger Van) then have difficulty boiling an egg whilst she was quite modest about herself. I think she said she did not like doing pastry then came on top on the pastry test.

Given that these people are profession chefs, one has to ask where?

The local Harvester where the extent of their skills is frying some chips, cremating a rare steak and reheating catering meals? The schoolboy errors were jaw dropping.

I'm no chef, and would never put myself up for anything like this, but if you're going to you've surely got to be able to grasp the basics.

As I wrote above, it happens every year.

From the still shot they showed when they were doing her biography i would have said the Michelin stared establishment that the young lady worked at is Gidleigh Park, where Michael Caines is / used to be head chef.

If she can't cut the mustard with that on her pedigree there's something very wrong!

It's Lucknam Park

..still trying to come to terms with Monica's new 'do. Maybe on the second day I'll manage to get used to it? I'm not sure it's the actual colour, as I think she looked fantastic with blond hair swept back and high, a' la Tilda, as in here:

http://www.hardens.com/wp-content/up...7-10.29.08.png

It must be the flattened-out, close-to-the-scalp and very dry look.

Re: Marcus; I agree with who said (possibly PennySimps - apologies if it isn't) that he has been a bit harsher this year. But then I noticed that Shrek's comments tended to soften the blow. Maybe that's his role this year?

Wait to see what will happen this evening.
