But she was right. The pithiviers split open because the beardy guy wouldn't listen to her and insisted on over-trimming the pastry resulting in it not being sealed properly.
I have to say it's depressing seeing the bitching about her on here. Personally I think it's great to see a confident, talented woman who knows what she is doing and isn't afraid to have her say. Perhaps she should have meekly deferred to the man's point of view, even though it was wrong, just so people would think she is fluffy and nice.

Agree with all the sentiment of your post, it's great to see her stand up for herself and she was right and she is a great cook too.

It's nothing to do with that at all. It's the manner in which she speaks to people which is wrong. She didn't have to snap at the guy and she did so again to the other chef at the oven. There's nothing wrong with her being confident but there are ways in which to speak to people she is working with respectfully which she didn't do.

I didn't think she snapped at anyone, she just said what she thought and was assertive about it. If she was a man, I'd bet money that no one would have felt the need to comment on it.

Well, I love Ellie. I don't see her as bossy or overpowering. Believe me, I have worked with women of all types and I am a good judge of character. Also, I don't suffer fools gladly. However, I don't rock the boat at work. So definitely not confrontational.
Ellie comes across as a lovely person, loving what she does for a living and enjoying the experience.And I don't see her as being like any of those I have worked with whom I don't get on with. Also, the others seem to like her and if they get on, then I don't think anyone needs to get all offended on their behalf!
I sometimes wonder why people feel the need to judge so harshly and misconstrue events like they do.
It's a sad state of affairs.
Anyway, this is about how well they cook, not what their personalities are like. It's not Big Brother.

I think it's all down to what makes "good TV". Max's selling point is he is an exceptionally talented pub chef, but he plays his cards close to his chest and he doesn't have that beard-with-shaven-head look you'd cross the street to avoid.
At this stage in the series if it's a choice between two they are more interested in an "edgy" appearance and a capacity for boastfulness.

Yeah it was really so predictable they would split, in the oven a tad too long as well by the look of it, very sloppy, and Brenton comes over as quite arrogant so no surprise he brushed off Ellie's advice. The group challenges have been fascinating as it its been very revealing who the team players with their heads screwed on are, and the ones who think they know it all already and have their heads up their own arse.
Meanwhile congratulations to Her Excellency for running the first establishment in the entire history of Masterchef to have the cutlery set sufficiently far apart that the plates can put down by the waiters without that awkward clinking of knives and forks that we get everywhere else - and I'll bet they didn't have really heavy swing double doors that the waiters have to rugby scrum their way through either!

I find him unbearable, ALL ego, I actually found Elly very restrained, she knew she was right, she tried to explain to him, but he would not listen, I do love to have a pantomine villain in these shows, Gosh he is very unlikable, and that beard
. The Hipster look does not suit him at all.

She's driven, focused, ambitious and totally passionate about her profession. Of course she doesn't want her dish go wrong and is right to be vocal about it in a way that will be heard in a highly pressured environment.

Not just that I think. It must also be about playing safe or trying to push boundaries a bit more, even if it comes from frustration.
I can see why in this stage of the competition they chose James over Max.

And Zoe said that the women have to try/work ten times as hard to be taken seriously in a kitchen, which Monica agreed with.
Team Elly all the way for me - I can imagine her running her own kitchen in a few years. She reminds me of Angela Hartnett - have you ever seen her at work, barking our her orders?
