I only watch the professional version too
(not sure why, but I like the challenges they're given and the critics rounds) |

Fantastic final. Three nice people and thrilled that Gary won. What a journey.

What a great show this year! I was disappointed Arnaud didn't make the final 3, but really, I couldn't have picked any of the last 4 to go! I picked out Gary very early on (honestly!) so I'm absolutely delighted he won. Such a great attitude and outlook as well. He didn't come in as the lecturer thinking he knows it all - but back being a pupil again, learning all the time. His students are very lucky to be taught by him. I can't wait to see what he'll be doing now!

Wanted Ellie to win, everyone else seems to have wanted Gary. Ellie is from Plymouth and so am I so routed for her and she was very consostent throughout, but Gary was my second choice.

Three lovely people and my allegiance changed between them throughout the show.
But glad for Gary and glad for the other two that they produced such brilliant dishes. It's fab to see the way this show brings people together rather than the usual reality tv shenanigans of having conflict. Happy days..well done all. |

I don't comment in this thread but, I am an avid fan of the show. This has to be one of the best finals they've had for a long time. Up until last night I thought it was between Matt and Ellie but, watching Gary so comfortable in one of the world's top restaurants and receiving such high praise from a three star chef and his staff I thought it has to be his to lose. I actually gasped when the chef went mad for his dish.
Tonight was such a joy and although I liked all three of them I was so pleased for Gary that I clapped and cheered when he won. Great series with a fantastic result. As much as I loved Michel Roux Jr, the highest compliment I can pay Marcus is that this is the first series where I've not missed, he has been an excellent replacement.

Tremendous final, all three of them were great.
Gary's razor clam starter honestly one of my favourite dishes I've seen in any series, just perfection! I'm glad it looks like he will be staying in education though it wouldn't surprise me to see him pop up in a fly on the wall type series somewhere down the line. Just one thing though - does this series really need Gregg as a presenter now? He just gets in M&M's way most of the time, picking up another easy pay cheque!? |

The series uses the three of them (in different combinations at different stages) and they work together well as a team. I am sure that if Wareing was not happy working with Galetti or Gregg then he would not do so. |

You could just as easily ask whether Wareing "needs" Galetti, he could do the programme on his own rather than her "picking up another easy pay cheque".

I am sure that if Wareing was not happy working with Galetti or Gregg then he would not do so. As a viewer I find both Marcus and Monica's contributions useful and I love their skills test demos, not so much Gregg's - I just find myself tuning him out until he has finished speaking! And he isn't much use in the skills test and is absent for the critics round. But I suppose he is there as the non-chef? |

Gregg will often speak up for the ordinary customer who does not want raw meat and some of the other delicacies that the professionals claim to like. I don't like the way that the other two leave the room when the winner is announced. It does not happen in Bake Off and sure they return as soon as they stop recording. Only done for dramatic effect. |

I actually quite enjoy Gregg's presence. He's entertaining in a way that the two cooking pros can't be. M & M tend to agree with each other, and Gregg's occasional disagreement with them is speaking for those of us who want pleasurable food more than we want a technical marvel.
Marcus is looking for something clever and innovative, Monica is looking for perfect execution, and Gregg is looking for a good eat. Works for me. |

I notice in the newspaper report on Gary winning that he has appeared on STV Glasgow - a local station. Quote:
Gary, who was a guest chef on STV Glasgow before finding nationwide fame on the BBC smash hit, battled through seven weeks of fierce competition against 47 other professional chefs.

All three of them work well together and even when Gregg's not there both M&M mention him when a dessert is being served.

Well done Gary! Nice guy too.
I wonder: do the last to present their dishes always win on Masterchef? |

For once I agreed with Greg - Matt's food was what I would have wanted to eat.
But it was clear that Gary was the worthy winner - and it is great to see an older candidate get this opportunity. Throughout the series I thought that Ellie was being groomed to win - but I suspect she will get plenty of job offers as a result of this exposure. All three deserved to be in the final - but I want to eat that hunk of beef - it looked delicious! |
