My friend reckons they can make them for £30 in their Chinese factory...

Which is probably why Apple make billions of dollars.

That's a lie. They cost at least £100+ to make

A quick Google shows they cost around £174 to make but that only allows for the actual manufacture of the phone. You then have distribution, design, R&D, admin, marketing, profit for Apple/profit for retailer as well of plenty of other costs to add on to get a true figure.

Don't other companies that make mobiles with just as good or better specs, but sell cheaper than Apple have those costs as well?

We had a thread on this. They aren't cheap to make at all.

The problem is that no one knows the economy of scale discount that Apple gets. The raw parts for 1 woukd come much higher than what Apple actually pays to make it.

It will be cheap as the margins are massive. That is known, but then it's a company that makes most of its money from its brand name.

They are actually very cheap to make, hence the exorbitant profits companies like Apple make.

I had a look at the iPhone 7 in an Apple store. I really dislike the new 'fake' vibratey home button. Feels much cheaper than the real button on the 6/6s.

It really doesn't matter how much they cost to make. People demand and pay for them (£600+ or not), Apple supply them, and everyone's happy.

Good luck to 'em I say - if people will pay what they ask, and they rake in the profits, that's good business.

I've had an iPhone 7 for over a month now I can tell you that the 'button' is fantastic and the heptic engine 3d touch is the future and is much nicer than the old vibrate tech used in all other now inferior phones!
The one thing that is annoying me is no headphone jack as my new car has an aux port but no Bluetooth so I can either listen to my music or charge the phone but not both and the apple supplied earpods are crap.

has no-one brought out an adapter for that yet?! Can you charge the phone if it's plugged into an aux socket to play music, but your car stereo has bluetooth?
It's unnecessarily confusing....anyhow, I drive a Mini and there's no support at all for anything other than (older) iPhones, so as I have an android phone, I have to copy my music to a usb stick for long journeys

How long does your iPhone 7 battery last, and how fast does it recharge anyhow?

You have a headphone adaptor in the box; just use a 3.5mm jack cable!

The point being made was that with what's in the box you have to chose between charging and using a headphone jack.

You need to buy a third-party accessory if you want to charge the device and use the headphone jack at the same time.

And the 3rd party accessory costs... £10? And of course you always need to charge and listen?

Same old bullshit.

Completely agree. Have people lost all sense. Making a post off some random bullshit their friend told them. And then people post bullshit of the same level back! I mean the guy who thinks £60 tops...

They are apparently the most profitable phone on the planet. I posted some figures on this only the other week in the Pixel thread. Apple makes around £184 clear profit on each phone whereas Samsung makes around £36.

When using satnav it drains the battery so needs to be plugged in. You can't get away from the fact that it is very inconvenient.

Is there an adaptor that allows charging and using the headphone jack simultaneously?

Amazon has lots of adaptors for less than £10. That was easy wasn't it?

No doubt all those iPhone7 purchasers will be delighted to know that they are helping to maintain Apple's record of 104% of the entire industry's profit on smart phones (the rest combined make a loss).
