They are apparently the most profitable phone on the planet. I posted some figures on this only the other week in the Pixel thread. Apple makes around £184 clear profit on each phone whereas Samsung makes around £36.
The Google Pixel phone sells for the same price as the iPhone 7 and costs Google about the same to manufacture as the iPhone 7 , so you could have started a thread title swapping iPhone with Google Pixel, but I suspect that wouldn't have got you the attention you wanted.

They are actually very cheap to make, hence the exorbitant profits companies like Apple make.
Exactly. People can dress it up, but you don't get billions of dollars in profit if you're only making $1 profit per phone sale.

Might I add my friend is not an expert. Just an idle commentator. Like moi.

At least Apple phones don't routinely blow up like Samsung and the Google Pixel is similar price to the i phone.
I had already switched to wireless headphones on my old 5s i phone and can recommend the AKG Y45bt selling at under £70 or if you want bigger and even better sound try the AKG Y50bt at around £113.

Can anyone tell me what Google was thinking when they put the touch id on the back of the pixel phone

You omitted to say that the cost of the Pixel is on a par with the Galaxy S7. I have already posted what the profit is on a Galaxy i.e. approx £36. Therefore one could argue that the profit on a Pixel is therefore the same. It is common knowledge the iPhone is the most profitable product in history.

I now own an iPhone 7 and a Galaxy S7. I can only assume that the iPhone is so popular and profitable due to Apple's slick marketing. As far as I'm concerned the Galaxy S7 is much the better phone of the two. The iPhone 7 has poor battery life, isn't quick to recharge and iOS is mind numbingly boring and restrictive.

If the iP7 hadn't been a gift it would be gone by now. The wife is using it and she too is not impressed.

Great place for the finger print sensor - it is a natural fit. You make it sound like Apple has never had issues with its handsets.

Your Galaxy is quite literally an Orange as you are comparing Apples to oranges, the average £ profit of Galaxy phones is always going to be much lower as Samsung sell many budget Galaxy handsets, selling a shed load of phones for around £100 is always going to pull that profit margin in £s down.

So is it your argument that the S7 alone has the same profit margin as an iPhone? If so then please inform most if not all industry analysts, oh and don't forget to let Samsung know as I'm sure they will be delighted to hear your view.

What a strange thread. The suggestion is that the only cost to Apple is the parts and labour involved in manufacturing the phone. Completing ignoring the hundreds of millions of pounds it costs to develop them.

Is that any different than for other companies who only make a fraction of the profit Apple make on each handset.

Oh I see now, it's another Samsung v Apple/ anti-Apple thread, how groundbreaking.

Exactly but that old game misses the point.

Apple make vast profits on all their products and especially mobile phones (see my post #25 above). Other manufacturers crave similar vast profits so they are trying it on with their new "high end" phones. If they can also find punters willing to pay silly money for little gain good luck to them. If not those products will soon be selling off with large discounts.

So what are you suggesting? That the S7/S7 edge makes far less profit than the iPhone per unit even though it sells for a relatively similar retail price and uses very similar components?

Can you link to where Samsung have specified the exact cost and profit margin they make on the S7 or S7 edge?

The money they make is mostly from the ecosystem of apps, music and other content, which they take up 30% of everything sold for a digital sale (so little cost), right?

What a weird reply. I have both the phones listed above so how can it be what you suggest? This is about the profit Apple makes on each handset.

Come laddie on keep up.

It's clearly not the above and a cursory glance over any of Apple's quarterly earnings calls would tell you this.

Absolutely that. Every single analyst reports on the iPhone will tell you it's the most profitable product on the planet and by some margin. The cost of S7/S7 Edge is reported to be $255. You then have to add on all the marketing and distribution costs. Try searching for the documents via Google. You will find what you are seeking in Korean financial reports.

Business caught selling things for more than it cost to make. Such a shock. I don't know how they sleep at night.

The same marketing and distribution costs Apple would face?

You forgot to mention R&D and after sales costs as well (which both would also have).

I fail to see how any person with logical thinking wouldn't realise that firms selling an electronic item made up of pretty similar components for a pretty similar price wouldn't make a pretty similar profit.

But sometimes a person's logical thought processes are clouded and twisted by their personal perceptions of some companies...

Ah, so no links to back up the assertion? Gotcha...

Gotcha you say! How old are you? Look I don't care you don't believe easily obtainable information regarding Apple's profit on the iPhone. Perhaps it's a bitter pill to swallow. If you can't be arsed to Google Samsung profit margins, well I'm not going to lose sleep over that.

And the latest Samsung phones will be heavily discounted long before the latest iPhones thus cutting into profits even more.
