That's a hell of a bold statement considering Apple has copied almost everything from Android!!

Yes, Android is not the same over every device, but thats the beauty of it. My phone doesn't have to look like the next person who has an Android phone. With iOS, you all look the same.

You will also see many people prefer Android if you read technology forums. Its not aone way street!!

For the record, i have had several iphones, own 2 ipads and am typing this on a Macbook Pro. I have nothing against apple, but there phones are subpar at best. The rest is great.

Hard to believe you actually read his answer. To be fair there was rather a lot to read ....

i disagree. i think YOU have lost the plot

what someone wants to do with something they've purchased is up to them, not you

well that's just complete an utter nonsense. do you not remember mobile phones before the first iphone?

andriod is basically a copy of IOS and most smartphones since the iphone have copied the same basic style. don't you remember the various shapes and styles of phones before the iphone? look in a carphone warehouse today and notice most of the phones resemble the basic shape of the first iphone, with an operating system that also resembles the first version of IOS

that's not true either. you can change the look of your phone on IOS too. however the majority of phones will be harmonised in running the latest version of IOS, instead of umpteen different versions based on the specs of the phone. there's little guarantee as to how long an andriod phone will get updates

that's merely your opinion rather than fact. i disagree, as will others. why have several iphones if you consider them subpar? they can't be that bad if you have owned several. or are you now going to say you didn't actually own them and they were business phones instead? what about the ipad? why buy so many IOS devices if you think they are subpar? if you think iphones are subpar what do you think of android phones, and why don't you buy an andriod phone and tablet if iphones are subpar in your opinion? it makes little sense

You can argue about how people use a device, and that everyone is free to spend whatever they like on a phone - but saying Android is a copy of iOS and that nobody knows how long Android will get updated?

Now, anyone remember the LG Prada phone and others? Anyone remember that Sony Ericsson, and indeed Ericsson, and Motorola, and Samsung, and... were making smartphones before 2007? Who copied who? 2002 for a touchscreen Symbian phone (earlier if you consider the R380 World phone). Windows Mobile. Palm OS.. Crikey.

And you should also know by now that Android apps are not part of the OS. Even people on old Android versions as far back as 4.4 will be getting the latest Maps, Chrome, keyboard, Gmail and other apps.

Play services and the like are updated via the Play store. Nobody needs to wait for an OS update to fix problems with an app - just get the latest version automatically.

There are pros and cons, and they can be debated, but I am surprised at your lack of knowledge on this.

Yes i do. As Jon above has said, the LG prada for example which i had (and would have added into this discussion), had a screen of icons way before the iphone did. As did many others. That was a smartphone! the first iphone was indeed in a way innovative, but was completely hobbled at the same time.

Utter garbage. The iphone had the same shape as again jon mentioned, the LG Prada and many other phones at the time.

So did Android copy the notification center apple users now enjoy? Or was that the other way round?

Custom keyboards?

App store?

There are many other examples!

Can you? I can't see any way to add a widget with weather based info, or news info to any iphone screen. All i see is rows of icons that cannot be changed to any other way than that.

You can disagree and many will. However, many won't either!!

Business phones? If you bothered to read you will see i said the iphones are subpar but other things are like the ipad and macbook pro, fine.

At the time i had the iphones, little was better than them. Now most are better. I had the iphone 4S and 5S and they were fine. Now iphones are a bit meh. Absolutely no effort in design and the OS basically looks the same as it did 9 years ago. Very bland indeed.

I do have an Android phone!! I have the Xperia Z5 which i still prefer the look, feel and use of to an new iphone.

I'm just wondering how this thread is still possibly alive. The premise is absurd.

We really need a wasteland on this forum for all the spam to go.

You can put people on your ignore list, like the trolls who start such threads. It's a shame you can't put entire threads on an ignore list so you aren't tempted to click on them!

Was the lg Prada a smartphone? Can't remember if it has a browser which I would list as an essential element. Although it had a touchscreen, it was truly terrible.

Anyhow, it's well known that the iPhone was a complete game changer. Just ask Samsung who had to completely redesign their devices and steal the ideas from Apple (and lost a very long court case in the process).

Of course. But the suggestion was that they only use 10% of the capability of their expensive purchase and could get that capability for far less with other products.

They have paid extra for the bling not the technology.

Where does the 10% figure come from?

Very interesting but you really have lost the plot.

You are now arguing against yourself. Nobody needs to buy a £700 iPhone in order to use Facebook Safety Check.

Anecdotal evidence as indicated by repetition of possibly in my original post. Actually I asked some friends who all have very expensive phones.

Given the subsequent discussion here I went back with further questions and have an update. Possibly many purchasers of very expensive phones are not even aware of half the capabilities of their phones.

the prada phone was little like the iphone in real terms of usage. it was a terrible phone to use

it's not garbage at all. you are clutching at straws now. i never said it was the first phone with that shape, did i?

however since the iphone there are fewer phones of different shapes. if you actually remember the time before the iphone came out you had clamshell phones and phones like the nokia n95 or whatever it was, which was one of the best phones at the time. since the iphone most smartphones follow the same basic principles, don't they?

i did bother to read, but rather than jump to conclusions, misquote and end up wrong, as many others do, i prefer to ask questions to obtain information before replying. the long and short of it appears to be that you made the decision to buy an iphone over the competition and do so again, so at the time you surely couldn't have considered the phones to be subpar. comparing old models to new ones isn't a like for like comparisson

The iPhone was game changing because of a higher resolution capacitive touchscreen that introduced multi touch. It started without an app store or other basic features available on other platforms, but the new UI was without a shadow of a doubt amazing.

I do think people somehow forget how limited it was beyond that, or that Apple didn't invent smartphones.

Would you like to tell us why you simply posted a link to an article about Facebook Safety Check? If not I think we need say no more.

i am not going to through all of the post, it is far too much.
But a couple of things, you can see what noise a phone/tablet or any other electronic audio equipment puts out with the right equipment, it is called signal to noise ratio, all audio equipment produce noise, some worse than others. Iphone like other phones and tablets put out a lot, you need to use some good filtering and noise reduction to get rid of it. No doubt Taylor Swift have access to studios that can do it, but it is a pain for the smaller producers.

As for telling people what they can buy, I have never done that, I just think people are sometimes pushed into buying things they do not need

As for BMWs, never owned one, but been in a few, my brother-in laws little Suzuki swift is more comfortable.

I half agree with you, but it wasn't just the multi touch, it was the way the OS and apps took advantage of it.

It sounds crazy now but the reason people reacted the way they did to things like slide to unlock and scrolling through contacts and music is because it was streets ahead in user experience than anything before it.

To balance the bias, maybe people don't remember how bad the first android phones were (I believe they didn't even have a virtual keyboard).
