We have this year lost not one but two presenters who you would associate with Christmas morning. There will, sadly, be no more Junior Choice. I have a horrible feeling that a pre-recorded SLS will air 09.00 to 11.00 on Christmas Day.

We will undoubtedly have Roger Royale followed by Claire Balding and probably Paul O Grady at some point Christmas Day morning.

I'd say that leaves one x 2 hour slot available and Ed would always present live which, in my opinion made it 100 times better.

Although Christmas Love Songs is a possibility

The songs and artists you mention I hold a great fondness for, even now at 51, and hearing certain songs put me straight under my flanalette sheet, tuned to my Vesta £2.99 blue radio with a fake wooden speaker grille, from Woolies
Mine was a 'Satellite Avenger' which saw me through the 1970s! I have been thinking about other songs which featured heavily on Junior Choice, which might have been forgotton. There were other novelty songs by the Wurzels stand might stand the test of time. I always enjoyed David Bowie's 'Laughing Gnome'. Ray Stevens also did 'Bridget the Midget'. All the David Saville 'Chipmunk' Songs. There were more forgetable ones like Glyn Poole's 'Milly Molly Mandy' which got a fair number of requests, as did St Winifred's School Choir and 'There's No One Quite Like Grandma'. It is hard to think of any current presenter who could hold these together with any credibility.

My favourite was A Windmill In Old Amsterdam. Clive Dunn's Grandad played a lot, Two Little Boys by Rolf Harris, and Morningtown Ride by The Seekers, which was the theme. Wonder why that got picked? I grew up on The Seekers, as my mum loves them, so it was always great to hear that every weekend.

I always assumed it was because it was a morning programme. The instrumental version they used was very 'jazzed up', and it was ages before I realised it was 'Morningtown Ride'. It was always accompanied by Ed saying 'Morning!!!' So it all fits together.

The Seekers did feature quite often. Judith Durham's voice was brilliant.

And of course there was Nelly the Elephant going off with a trump.

Now confirmed this year on Christmas Day 2016 will be Claire Balding "Good Morning Sunday" at 07.00am followed at 10.00am by "The Christmas That Goes Wrong" from The Mischief Theatre Company, then Paul Grady from 12pm midday. No signs of anything to do with Ed Stewart, Terry Wogan nor Jimmy Young at Christmas at all. Not even a "Nellie The Elephant" song to herald in Donald Trump!!

There are four radio legends I associate with Christmas morning radio. Ed and Terry were two, Tony Blackburn and Simon Bates the other two. That schedule is crying out for someone of that stature to be live for a couple of hours. Paul O'Grady is there but just gets on before the customary collapse in radio audience after lunch.

That's brilliant, thank you

Don't suppose anyone has the 2012 edition as Ed gave me a mention as I requested the recently deceased Clive Dunn song Grandad,

Oh well, with that line up it looks like I'll be heading to Classic FM until Paul O'Grady comes on.

Serenade Radio - An internet station is celebrating today by remembering Junior Choice/Childrens Choice. To quote from their schedule

Junior Serenade with David Naylor.
An affectionate reminiscence of the long lost days of "Children's favourites" and "Junior Choice". On at 3.00 to 5.30 pm

followed by the Ovaltineys for half an hour from 1938

Another one on Serenade that maybe of interest is at 11 am this morning is

Radiomoments - A celebration of the last hundred years of wireless, and a fond farewell to some of the radio personalities we lost in 2016.

I played the 2009 edition from 10 yesterday. All was going well until he said Terry Wogan was starting to do a show from Feb the next year. That was a well up moment for the pair of them

Whatever that show was that replaced Junior Choice on Christmas Day, I sincerely hope it was a one off. It was absolute garbage IMO, and has no place on the radio - let alone on Christmas Day. I had to do a lot of driving on Christmas Day, and this show sent me channel surfing after 10 minutes.

Hope it doesn't return.

It's been a curious schedule in parts. Early Breakfast 0500 to 0630 on Boxing Day?? But I do feel radio 2 should use the greats while they are still around. Next year let's have Bates or Blackburn live at 0900 and Paul O'Grady at 11.00.

The big glaring issue with Radio 2 now airing a repeat between 3am and 5am weekdays is the Eariy Breakfast Show problem.

In the past they've simply been able to extend the night time shows through to 6.30am which they can no longer do as that show ends at 3am so they have no choice than to pay Penny Smith to cover for Vanessa

I suppose an alternative could have been to delay Breakfast by 30 minutes and have a couple of repeats between 3am and 7am and there are plenty to choose from that have been airing over the festive period.
