Now I know that some of the spin off compilations have been met with derision in some cases but they've done at least a fairly good job with this one, the NOW brand has basically been going in the direction of the "Best Albums In The World Ever" on top of their current chart music releases which are essential for keeping up with chart music, it's not been quite so good with their themed compilations which often just stick quite random modern hits into the likes of "Now Love" & "Now Drivetime" etc recently. Of these I have only thought of a few to be any good for what it says it should cover, such as Now Disco, Now Million & Now Classic Rock, the rest such as Now Chill & Now Feel Good have been mainly rubbish, and I say that as someone who still enjoys modern chart music, the spin off compilations haven't had much to do with anything.

Now 70's has a fairly bog standard list, and there are lots of songs I'm sure you can think of they could have had, but difficult to get that whole decade down to just 3 CD's, and this is the result from the NOW team.

Take this one, which is also coming out soon, the theme is number ones, it only bothers to cover the Tens & The Noughties on the hits they've included, shouldn't this be an all time compilation and include the 50's through to NOW, which luckily is what Now Million did even featuring "Rock Around The Clock" from 1955 on it.

If it's a boring argument about young people only enjoying music from the most modern era, then when you introduce them to something that basically is good then they can also get into that, when I was 13 Meat Loaf's "Bat Out Of Hell" wasn't a new hit but enjoyed it because it was introduced to me by being re-released on a CD single in 1993. Also liked Beatles music etc.

That has a very 80s feel to it.

They've done NOW 80's etc before, the cover design doesn't feel at all 70's, it's as generic as one of their current chart ones, which also don't reflect anything about contemporary cultureand just have very well graphically designed pretty colours and pictures of generic things, such as a beach in Summer and icy things in Winter. The covers were much more varied up to Now 20, which is when the current design came in and it hasn't really diverted from it ever since, Now 31 in 1995 was probably since then the most major variation having pictures of a big city, everything else is generic season based designs.

Forgot about this Now No 1's compilation released to celebrate 60 years of the singles chart in 2012, it did have all time coverage, I didn't buy it because I've obviously got nearly all of them. - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Now-Thats-W...all+a+Number+1

Very surprised that Bo Rhap isn't on but makes a change really to include another Queen song. Same with Nilsson that they didn't opt for Without You and they went with The Gambler instead of Lucille. May buy this. I bought Now....Million and thought it was great. Don't buy the regular Nows.

Everybodys talkin is a 60s song though. Without You would have been a better choice for a 70s Harry Nilsson song.

I bet that some of the other tracks are edited; 10cc and Blue Oyster Cult being the most likely. Maggie May may be edited and goodness only knows which edit of Bat out of Hell will be included. American Pie may only be part 1 although the full version was included when it was a hit in the 90s.

If they're using the "NOW" name to release compilations of old music, shouldn't it be called "THEN" instead?

FWIW, haven't "NOW" done countless retrospective (non main series) compilations by this point?

Don't know about the 70s, but they've done at least two year-by-year series for the 80s onwards, several "best ofs" and... God knows how many times this stuff has been reissued and reformatted by them.
