When will the love interest speculation begin this time then? Jorek. Berek. Derven...

I wonder if Mary still carries adult Annie everywhere on her hip and if she'd palm her off on Dot for old times sake?

It's a bit random, but he was a character when SOC was story producer.

It would actually be a really nice touch if he came to do something for Pauline's anniversary. Wendy Richard and Pauline are proper EastEnders legends, and she never really gets a mention.

The previous producer's boner over Peggy/Babs Windsor meant Pauline slipped down the legends hierarchy, which was unfair.

That being said, I hope this isn't a permanent return.

It's very unexpected but nice.

Most random return ever. I'd forgotten this character had ever existed.

^ He wasn't the most memorable was he? Although I do have a vague memory of him teaching Martin how to drive.

Is it a guest stint

Not really in that it's the tenth anniversary of Pauline's death and they were always going to do something for it but personally, I would have brought Mark Jnr in for this and not the utter nonsense because of Grunt's return earlier in the year

Bit of a random return for the show but I hope some more news keep coming from SOC now.

I hope the visit ends with him giving Martin some money so he can have financial security with where they live. I hate the 'we can't pay the rent' storylines that Stacey and Martin have, they are such good characters and it drags them down when the same thing is repeated.

You seem to be softening in your old age AOM. I've seen much harsher comments from you

At least it is continuity.

I also recall Asif teasing Martin for taking driving lessons with Derek because he was gay.

It was silly teenage boy stuff, but I think it's interesting that you probably wouldn't see homophobia treated so casually in the show today.

Didn't he used to be involved in Am Dram? If so, could he be coming back as part of the Xmas show storyline?

I think this could very much be the reason for Derek's return.
