I remember reading years ago that the storyliners considered that soon after they both returned in the early nougjties as they aren't biologically related and hadn't really spent that much time together until then due to her being so much younger and hum being in the Navy. But they decided against it and put him with Shelley instead, then did the bigamy plot.
