EastEnders - Lee and Whitney's wedding. Thoughts?
EastEnders has been fairly lowkey so far under SOC, and whilst the lack of interesting plots has bored me for weeks on end, I was pleasantly surprised to have enjoyed a 'big' episode, with a more laid back approach.
No, nothing epic happened, but I don't think anyone expected that anyway, given Danny Boy Hatchard is still filming. It was still however a wonderful episode. The community feel was great and I feel like there was a nice range of characters. Great to have Tiff, Morgan and Ryan back. Hopefully, we see more of them in the future! Susprisingly, the Carter's were more tolerable too. Shirley was wonderful . Having Shirley, Kathy and Honey behind the bar also worked well and was a nice treat for the more Old School EastEnders fans.Well done for what felt like a Classic episode. What are other users thoughts? |

I appreciate a more groomed and realistic wedding for a change. Whilst I like 'sensational' plots and gripping storylines flowing alongside pure character drama, the big episodes under DTC were hyped up far too much and ended up being mundane and ridiculous.

What i dont get is how people wanted a happy/low key wedding but when they do people complain and call it boring

I agree 100%. A character like Whit having a happy ending is the definition of feel good factor, making the inevitable demise and ending of it all the more dramatic and impactful

What a change to have the drama being generated by the growing depression of the groom contrasting with the joy of the day. No smashing the cake or big duff duff reveal, no fights, and no one got jilted at the altar. Then there was Ben, depressed in his own way...angry and hurt. But it ran parallel and didn't ruin the main action.

It was a nice and realistic wedding yeah, but it was hyped up the past few days, that we should all expect fireworks, so I did expect something to happen, especially with all of the drunk Ben scenes, I fully expected him to go to the Arches, take a car and knock down someone at the wedding (likely Lee) especially when Whitney wanted Lee to go out and say goodbye to Ryan.
But yes, the Wedding episode was nice and pleasant. Lauren was missed though, especially seeing as it was her best friends wedding. |

I thought the fact it was drama free is what made it good and watchable. Not everything has to be high drama and stunts to be enjoyable

![]() I thought it was an excellent character led episode. I don't think it was a classic episode or anything but it was a nice change of pace to have a wedding go off without a hitch, for once. And Mick actually said something funny for a change! The "no dogs allowed" moment with Shirley and Lady Di genuinely made me laugh. Lady Di has been the star of the week, to be honest.

What I enjoyed about the wedding episode is that although it was 'low key' and there wasn't a huge amount of drama... actually there was. We didn't get the Newman 'nicey nicey' approach which a lot of people seem to think Sean has been delivering; instead we saw this beautiful wedding which was completely underpinned with Lee's depression storyline. There was a lot going on if you knew where to look. EE delivered the beautiful wedding Whitney deserved but still managed that dark undertone in that we not only know it won't end well but saw that tonight as Lee gradually unraveled. So no, it wasn't all perfect and happy and things definitely happened; they were just (as depression is) very much behind the scenes (but very visible to the audience).

![]() I thought it was an excellent character led episode. Jim Shelley never has anything positive to say about EastEnders ![]() My only criticism is the Facebook page did hype it up a bit much (Not DTC Levels), hence why Social Media weren't as impressed. |

SOC seems very self-aware. Eastenders is in solid and sensible hands for the first time in over 6 years. |

Whitney was so underused by DTC its good to see her at the forefront of the show under SOC.
