Very true she is actually an incredible actress and it's been kind of criminal that she hasn't been allowed to spread her wings in the show much more.

I wouldn't have batted an eyelid for how low key the episode was had it not been for the week's worth of hype. I feel misled.

I mostly agree with the first part, however the BIB is questionable. I've been very on/off with SOC'a laidback approach so far, and you have to remember it is very early days still. DTC was praised for the first year or so. He was the man who saved EastEnders, but after the 30th anniversary, everything came crashing down. I guess time will tell!

It was lovely to have a normal wedding with no.melodrama, fights, people dying. But there was an ubderlying foreboding which nade it gripping because Lee is falling apart at the seems and nobody can see it except maybe Jonny but he doesn't see how bad it is or what to do about it.

And yes, Whitney looked beautiful.

I've said a few times that you have to watch EE in a slightly different way now than when DTC was in charge. Much of what is going on is subtle and like you say, you have to look for it. People who are expecting the stories to be flagged up with big red flashing lights and who don't pick up on the signs will inevitably claim it's boring and to some extent, they'll run a few episodes behind until things become clear on screen.


The hype didn't promise anything that wasn't delivered, though. Yes, it was probably a different episode to that which many people might have been expecting, whether they thought it was to be Lee's exit and that one of them didn't turn up, or whatever. I like the way in which SOC is not issuing spoilers and so much is kept under wraps. The episode was done so well, that IMO it bodes well for the R&R exit story as it surely won't pan out exactly as so many people are expecting based on a few photos and some rumours.

With Linda taking a break there is a great opportunity for her to become the landlady of the Vic. She's been great when left in charge. As the new Mrs Carter it is her rightful place.

After all fuss made about the wedding and all the weeks of planning and preparation, and what was it really, just a quick trip to the register office and then back home to the Vic. Although Whitney looked gorgeous in her dress, it was just a bit too much for a low key wedding like that, it was more suited to a big church wedding IMO.

The best laugh of the night was Babe and Sylvie dancing to Dexy's Midnight Runners, Sylvie was going mental!

Nice wedding, but confused as to why Buffalo Bill from "Silence of the Lambs" was called in to pose as the registrar.

Is Lee supposed to be depressed about his debt?

Soaps always exaggerate how disastrous debt is, the worst case scenario for Lee is that he would go on a Debt Repayment Plan and have a ruined credit report for 6 years. It would be different if it was something like 50 grand debt.

Lee has been suffering from clinical depression for some months and is on medication.

To me it is clear that the debt issue is overwhelming him and making him feel inadequate and he's questioning his self worth and then add the stress of the wedding and starting a new job and losing the baby, he is struggling to cope....
It might seem minor to you but that's not how someone with depression sees it and taking into account everything else that has happened, he is falling back into the clutches of the illness of depression again...

It's a really sad but very realistic portrayal of how depression can affect you....

It makes no sense to those who don't suffer from it but perfect sense to those of us who do or have done...

It's a really lonely and terrifying place to be...

Debt is often a symptom of depression, not necessarily the cause.

Spending and shopping often provides a short term distraction, but it is only short term. We've seen that with Lee buying the earrings, the flowers and the spa day. Now what was causing a distraction to his spiralling depression has now turned into a overwhelming burden.

I loved the episode, like previous posters have said it was subtle, not all weddings have to be high drama, fights and deaths. We could feel Lee's pain and that end scene with him pretending to be asleep was a really powerful duff duff in my opinion.
Also a contender for funniest line/scene of the year has to go to this...

Whitney is a far more three dimensional character under the new EP. I am impressed with his work so far. It is a lot more realistic.

I loved the rubbish truck turning up, a nice comedic touch.

Whitney looked absolutly beautiful, but as far as soap weddings go i just felt for Lee all the way through it. If my hubby to be couldnt get his words out at the alter and didnt have a smile on his face id be thinking "wtf is wrong" and would of taken him out for 5 mins to talk................ he clearly had something on his mind during the vows....... he clearly had something on his mind throughout the epsiode to be honest, but you know what I loved the episode as I know people who have had doubts and went through with it, I know people who've started affairs shortly after their weddings, just because 2 people organise a day to say I DO infront of aload of guests does not equal a 100% happy relationship and this episode kinda showed that. Lee has problems and no doubt Whitney knows it but doesn't want to admit to it

You could tell even though the wedding happened, things wore run smooth, that is obvious to anybody who don't even now Lee is being written out.

Happy and low key? Lee almost did a runner, pretended he was asleep on the wedding night, and cried tears of depression!

That's what I was getting at, it was one of the most unhappy weddings in my eyes, I guess some need an explosion or a murder,
