Sick of books like this, the ladybird ones are just as bad. They'll be "updating" the Magic Faraway Tree next. Or Noddy getting carjacked by the Golliwogs.
the clue to the faraway tree is those mushroo
s, clearly visible in the original line drawings ........

I don't mind the ladybird ones but I'm not sure about the Famous Five

I've got Five on Brexit Island.

I couldn't resist.

I've just googled them - so that's an actual title

They also have 'Five Give Up The Booze' and 'Five Go Gluten Free'

Will they go beyond the Famous Five?
Moonface might get noshed off by Silky.

I was in WHSmith earlier and noticed a few new 'Famous Five for Adults' books on display.

I didn't have time to look at them properly, but I was wondering if anyone else had seen them and if you'd consider buying one?

I might get one for my mum as a little extra Christmas present (and read it myself first! ).

I get the impression they aren't meant to be serious fiction stories - probably more of a satirical style.

We saw them at Tesco other day, and I wouldn't buy them, as they didn't have a lot of pages to them. They did have the old style illustrated cover on them, (hard backed), which felt it was out of place really as the story is too modern, and not much of a story at that!

That's what Tesco had, and I bet the old 5 never ever heard of Gluten free! Never mind the Booze, the front cover of one showed one of the 5 smoking sitting by her table. I would have got a few books, except they were too thin!

My other half has bought one of these for one of his relatives and her husband combined. Ever since the EU referendum they've been banging on about it. One voted leave and the other remain. It caused arguments. So he's gone and bought the "Five go to Brexit Island" ... I don't think it will go down well at all!

Didn't buy one for mum in the end; the reviews suggest they're not very good. The shops are full of them though.
Very sensible not to buy

The current author might have intended that to happen, to liven up Christmas

It will be interesting to see if they take it as a joke or take it the wrong way!

That's an odd factor to use to decide whether or not to buy a book!

I agree - I think they've overdone the concept of these old-style books now.

Yep, agreed. But even the Ladybird series needs to stop now though IMO.

It's not like these things are in your face. You could live a perfectly active and varied life without coming into contact with any of these books or even being aware of their existence. Some people like them, let them enjoy them, and you get on with the things you enjoy.
