Most if not all of the people commenting on the earliest episodes here were born years after they were made.

Regardless, you'll be happy to know that Corrie was only in black and white until 1969 (and also a three-month period between 1970 and 1971 due to a strike). Not that there's anything wrong with black and white.

if u look at the post above, u will see that i probably would watch 2000s episodes, cos i remember watching corrie on and off in 2004/2005 cos i remember Charlie Stubbs and Katy Harris even tho i was only little when they were in it. those names just stick in my head i dunno why. i would watch clips of the noughties, just wouldn't wanna watch 90s or earlier, wouldn't even know who the 90s characters were!”

Interesting. You have the opposite view to me. I only started watching in 1998 but I find the earlier episodes far more alluring (after the first 25 years my interest drops with each decade, broadly speaking). I'm a fan of Corrie so I've gone back and watched them and found them to be better than the current stuff. Age doesn't matter.

Mind you, 2009 was probably the worst year in Corrie history so I wouldn't start with that.

I've been a lover of the 'old' Coronation Street since I first saw the Granada Plus repeats back in 2000 at the age of 6-7 which was up to the middle of 1984 at that point. 1983-84 were good years considering the amount of cast changes.

For me, the first 25 years are pure gold. My favourite character? I can't decide. Can share my "Corrie quartet" as I call it - Ena, Elsie, Annie and Hilda. 1976-84 is, in my eyes, the golden age of the programme. Any scenes with Stan, Hilda and Eddie always make me smile.

If DS was around then I can guarantee people would hate Len Fairclough and Fred Gee and would demand the programme be axed for some reason

i put it down to being a VERY modern person. I'm with the current times, i use slang and know the latest trends, I'm not into social media tho, i hate how it seems to of taken over the world

I'm the complete opposite of my mum and dad, who love watching shows/films from before they were even born!

Really old corrie would b really old dialogue and words which i wont even get (like dithering, etc.) Characters i wont even know, etc.

60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s corrie storylines are from decades ago, most of the characters have gone now, and i cant understand ppl who say they want the "good old days" back. omg, those days went yrs and yrs ago! I'm not faulting anyone who is interested in the history of the show, but it doesn't appeal to me at all!

being very modern, i really can't b doing with old fashioned things my grandparents know about, black and white box TV, 3 channels, with the age we live in now, it must of been awful back then, cos nowadays, ppl can't live without their phones

As i say i remember it in 2004/2005 as a little kid, and remember it being good

I'm not sure either Aiden Critchley or Les Battersby-Brown.

Haha cool mate, you are funny

The current Coronation Street is just crap, that's all. The characters are rubbish. I'm a modern person too, and like new music, new tv shows etc but it surprises me how much you like Corrie considering how old and behind the times it is. However, with
Spoiler
the Barlow boys returns
things might get better.

wow thanks mate no one on this forum has ever said that before

Now IRL, its a different story altogether. Literally everyone thinks i am witty/good at one liners but no one else in my family is, so i dunno where it comes from!

i agree its still behind the times, and needs freshening up a bit. And i agree about the characters too! I cant stand Phelan or Caz, Amy is a little cow, Tracy is hit and miss, same with Cathy and Anna, I think they are the only characters i dont particularly like tbh. Gemma is my favourite character, i love her! I also love Tim, Mary, Kirk, Beth, basically all the funny ones steal the show for me. I love the Platts, and Peter Barlow, and everyone else in the show I like, but I'm soooo sick of Maria! She's dominated the show for months!

I'm not really looking forward to these new Barlow boys tbh. Adam is probably just a typical cocky **** who thinks hes got swag and all the women fancy him, while Daniel is a mini Ken, a boring bookworm. But I don't judge a book by its cover, so we'll see. Maybe they will b good

I don't really know any of those characters you mention, haven't watched it for years but everytime I tune in there is Gail, Sean or Steve gawping at me And haha no worries, nice to see someone with a bit of character

You probably don't have the same motivation as me for the Barlow boys, the one played by Sam Robertson looks hot

The only characters I like in the show are Ken, Rita and David Platt. Tracey is a caricature IMO, just bitchy for the sake of it, no realness to depth to her.

I will tune in next week.

Oh i get it, u like Adam cos u think he's fit

so shallow

Ha, just kidding. I made a similar comment about Kylie (David Platts wife, she was stabbed to death in july) months ago and loads of ppl called me shallow for calling her fit. she was easily my fave character, i was interested in her stories, but i think part of the reason i loved Kylie so much, is cos i like the way she looks she's hot

Haha don't worry I've seen you talk about Kylie, it's sweet

You should watch Neighbours cool_mate, you'd love the girls on there. Corrie lacks hot men/women IMO, I know the stories are more important but it's nice to have someone to look at

From the spoilers it does sound like the Barlows will be good characters though.

Do you not like any of the old characters like Ena Sharples? I think she's fascinating. Do you watch any other soaps?

Enjoyed all the early part of the Frank Foster stuff in 2011 in a different way, simply because he was a compellingly horrible character but after the trial it all descended into chaos & the awful Carla/Peter affair & I can't honestly say I've truly enjoyed Corrie since until the Kylie exit s/l this year, which sad as it was was brilliant viewing & in recent months I'm back to looking forward to each episode of Corrie again for the first time since 2011!!”

Also from the 08/09 period I loved the Barlow family, when it consisted of Ken, Deirdre, Blanche, Peter and Simon. Really great scenes between them and I enjoyed the start of Peter's alcoholism and when he had to accept his troubles and get help. Also liked Anthony Valentine as Simon's grandfather George.

I agree with the Frank Foster stuff, but unfortunately Corrie always feel the need to shove in an affair, similar happened with the Kirsty domestic abuse storyline. Apparently these storylines weren't compelling enough.

i like her face she seems to b getting even fitter the older she gets!

I'm a lot younger than her tho! IRL she probably could b old enough to b my mum! (Well, if she had me when she was like 12, she could) so its kinda weird i think to think that she's hot, when u look at it in that way

nah mate, neighbours is not my thing. I've never watched it and never will, I'm not into Aussie stuff at all!

yeah i agree it's always nice to have someone whose nice looking on a soap

the Barlows might b ok tho i won't judge til i see em on screen. No I'm not into old corrie mate, so don't really know who Ena sharples is. I've heard the name before tho

yeah i used to watch EastEnders but i went right off it, i sometimes still see it if my family are watching it tho. Corrie is the only soap I've always really been drawn to i dunno why, i think Emmerdale is shit and always has been and Hollyoaks is stupid. if I'm at home when its on i watch Doctors, that's ok

I am loving Phelan, Gary and Sarah are good, I really like Robin Thicke.....errr Adam, Daniel and the new dynamic with the Barlows.

Also if you want to keep this thread going you probably need to do something like Kwynne does with the Emmerdale P&P thread and post daily recaps, that helps keep the discussion going.
