Its one of those latin dances that look better done by women.
Makes men look camp or awkward.
Cha cha is another one.

I don't mind Ore and Jo but I can't remember their Salsa.

I think allowing lifts has subverted the Strictly Salsa - it's become all about control and big-moment preparation, when the dance should be, or at least look, spontaneous and fluid.

I was expecting to, but didn't. For me, the choreography was the problem, it just wasn't a great routine, Ore wasn't great either, he didn't have any hips and footwork not much better.

But looking at Joanne, can't say she was really any better than Ore, Latin obviously just isn't her style.

Hopefully Ballroom next week if he gets through.

Way too many lifts. I think Jo put them in there to disguise Ore's poor salsa action.

Other posters have mentioned their fave salsas. Here is my favourite Strictly salsa with a brilliant neck drop move in it.

I was expecting it to be good, the training bits had looked good, but the lifts as others have said were distracting and there were too many, in the brief clips we'd seen his hips and shoulders had looked good and fluid but I just didn't see that in the dance.

No I didn't like it. There wasn't enough hip action. He seemed stiff.

The judges wildly overmarked it to keep him safe 😏

Nah. While ballroom is her focus, Jo has always been a trained latin dancer though. I thought the overall routine was what did them no favours. Honestly Salsa is one of the dances of Strictly I've never been a fan of and would happily get rid of it. Followed by Charleston. I'm just not a fan of the choreographers they tend to use for this dances.

For me, the AS they did worked because they just, you know, danced. There was little emphasis on lifts. This felt like a routine that wanted Jo to be a ragdoll and Ore the pitch fork.

I don't agree about the lack of a connection though others say, I thought the bits that worked in this, were when they were 'partnered' up. They seem to get along fine. But this had no flow as a routine.

Definitely not one of their best. I found it a bit of a mess.

When you mentioned a neck drop I was sure this link would be to Mark and Karen's, this was good too but thanks as it made me revisit Hot, hot, hot.

Tbf Jo probably didn't choreograph it.

Honestly the last decent salsa I remember is Jake Wood. Which was with Janette who is/was a salsa dancer unlike most of the other pros (weirdly, she's not done a salsa since).

Thank you for posting that, wow! I don't remember that maybe I missed that year or something! That's a proper salsa, lots of turns & arm stuff that's well salsa-y. I miss Flavia! Her salsa with Louis Smith is a good example of the lifts not taking over a dance, I just rewatched it as its linked from that video and it had good salsa content and the big lift is the finale so it doesn't interrupt the flow.

I forgot how much I enjoyed Matt DA his journey on here being reduced to he sat on the floor when he forgot the dance.

I loved him and Alesha (wasn't a fan of Camilla, loved Gethin with Flavia on the tour though)

I think that was one of the finals where I just thought I'll be cool whichever of them wins.

I would be happy to lose the Salsa, but I enjoy the Charleston. Also the celebs seem to have a lot more fun dancing Charleston than they do Salsa, perhaps because most aren't comfortable with the hip action in Latin so the comic elements of Charleston are less intimidating. Of course some celebs have to make every dance style into a comedy routine just to survive, but for those who can actually dance, Charleston gives them a chance to show they can be funny when the dance style calls for it.

I liked it, but I didn't love it - was expecting brilliance and just got a good dance. I agree with those who disliked the lifts; for me they had too many and one looked quite ugly.

I still like Ore and Joanne a lot, and can't really understand why they get a lot of flak on here, but each to their own.

Me too. Ore makes one mistake and people are down on him like he has made a hundred
mistakes. I don't think his Salsa is bad at all.

Frankly, I can never distinguish a Salsa from a Samba so I took a look at some apparently high-level Salsas. From what I saw, excusing lack of armography, Ore's Salsa wasn't actually that bad.

I like him but I think some find him insincere.

I don't like the Salsa & not that keen on the Samba or Cha Cha Cha either. The only aspect I enjoyed of Ore & Joanne's dance was Ore as I have a huge crush on the man Back to the dance; I disagree with the judges that the lifts were good because I thought they looked clumsy. I liked Parts of the dance, but my dislike for the Salsa in general made me switch off; (apart from looking at Ore & seeing nothing other than the beautiful white doves & huge love hearts which magically appeared around him!)

I wasn't a fan of the dance, it just didn't seem very smooth. Lifts are all very well, but to me the basic hip action was a bit lacking

I don't particularly like Ore I think he's quite big headed even if he is one of the best dancers.

I think people are more critical of Strictly Salsas because it is dance that some of have done, probably not many of have danced Charleston for instance. Ore said he loved salsa which is great but if he went to a club and tried to dance that, he wouldn't last 5 minutes (take away the lifts which of course are never done in a club). I didnt see one proper basic, cross body lead etc. Ore didn't dance particularly badly at all but as I said Strictly Salsa is nothing like Club Salsa be that Cross Body or Cuban.
