Her audition was one of the best this year, and there are several decent pre-XF performances to be found on YouTube as well. Last night wasn't great, but she's done far better as a whole than many here give her credit for.
Her voice seems to 'pause' for a split second when she starts to sing the high notes. I don't think Sam should be singing songs that have high notes in them. It's like her vocal cords (or whatever) can't go from one tone to another without that 'pause' happening.
I'm indifferent to the contestants on a personal / personality level really, and try to focus on the vocals (listening to Sam's performance in another tab at the moment)
To me anyway, Sam's singing on the live shows just keeps wavering between pleasant and unbearable and I don't know why she's not improving / sorting it out

Well when the judges and Simon keep blowing smoke up her arse its no surprise.
The moment Cowell asked her to " remove the make up" it all started to go downhill. I know its just make up but that was symbolic of how the X factor tries to mould acts into something they want to see on their show. She was much better at the auditions.
She is awful - just tuneless noise - i really liked her at auditions and judges houses and now they are trying to turn her into an Avril Lagvine tribute act she sounds horrific
She's awful isn't she? Perpetually flat and brings no life to her performances. Add into the mix that irritating honk like Dolores Cranberry on ketamine and it's a recipe for wanting to watch the world burn.
Sam is a good singer, in fact she's probably along with Saara the best technical vocalist of this series.
However what is harming Sam is that she's a Rock singer and 5 weeks in she's not been given a Rock song, she reminds me of Lzzy Hale who would also probably sound like a "foghorn" to some people if she was on this show and being given some of the songs to sing that Sam has had to sing.

Have to agree, she's regularly flat and that break in her voice sounds like she's yodelling; nothing wrong with it if used sparingly but with her, it never stops. Nicolle picked up on it two weeks ago, surprised she hasn't mentioned it again.

But yeah it's more bad management than bad vocal.”
Last nights song was a Pretenders song. What's Chrissie Hyde if not a rock singer? Last weeks song was Total Eclipse of the Heart. That's most definitely a rock song. A cheesy, soft rock power-ballad but a rock song nonetheless. Are you wanting her to do Whitesnake or something?

I think Simon Cowell thought he had a Poundland Cher Lloyd on his hands
I've been saying it for a while but I didn't think anyone agreed with me when I've mentioned it on here. She's terrible! Why can't anyone on the show hear it? Just a loud drawn out tuneless monotone bellow. She's got power but her tone is the worst on the show, even Ryan has a little tune to his weak ass voice.
I thought she was so good in the auditions. I don't know what has happened to her in the live shows. She sounds so bad. Don't know why people are voting for her.

I love Sam and agree with you, they need to give her some good rock songs and Simon needs to give her more time and not all his time to Emily!

I was thinking that during her last performance. She would be so much better if she did not shout so much, it feels like she is straining. She was very good in the audition and at the judges houses.

BIB is a cheesy Pop number.
And Chrissie Hyde is a very soft claim to call a Rock singer.
Sam needs Halestorm, Fleetwood Mac, maybe even Metallica type of songs to sing, I mean the show has gone very wrong if The Pretenders and Bonnie Tyler are classed as Rock for her.
