Gangnam Style is actually a pretty good tune for producing a salsa with salsa content. And it has a good strong beat which is obviously what Ed needs. So I think there will be a wink to the song's dance but probably a lot of salsa too. Katya is a genius. It is an inspired choice.

Katya is really really impressive in the clever choices she is making.

I think the production team are probably aware that there are slightly different expectations for Ed Balls than there were for Will Young.

It reads like the opposite to me - it feels like desperation measures. A real kitchen sink job to get him to Blackpool. Which is odd because I don't think he needs it, but then Jeremy Vine missed out by one week last year and they had to let Craig ride in on the giant comedy prop they'd already bought for him, so maybe they just want to be certain.

I hope you're right. I will try to keep an open mind. It could go either way.

I guess he will get a Blackpool VW like a recent comedy duffer:

Bet she's one very proud and happy mummy today.

I loved JM in Strictly.

Just watched this and if Ed pulls it off (and I'm pretty sure he will) he'll raise the roof on Saturday.

I think it will be epic. Can't wait.

Especially if it is as entertaining as this gem from DWTS a few years back. Still makes me howl every time I watch it.

It is a foregone conclusion now that he will get to Blackpool. They are pushing him to the extreme with the 'joke contestant' label with this song. The quality of the dance routine, based on what we have seen of his routines up til now is bound to be extremely poor.
It is also a foregone conclusion that he will be out by the week after Blackpool at the latest..

BIB Probable, but certainly not a foregone conclusion unless he ends up in the DO.

He danced pretty well in the QS and not at all embarrassingly in the waltz, but I agree that some of his moves in latin make me cringe; I literally clapped my hands to my eyes at his body-rub in the CCC despite enjoying the rest of the routine.
As long as Katya doesn't give him too much walking to do out of hold, which he does in such a (and I wish I could think of a word that doesn't sound so covertly 70s homophobic) mincey way, and gives him something to do with his hands as happened in the charleston -which I really liked- then it might be a fun experience.
But I really hope this routine doesn't turn into a cliched "funny" dad-dance fest.

I pray to the dance gods that it fails. And I hope that Craig goes into a full-blown tantrum over the lack of samba content.

Though I know the dance gods are cruel and rarely answer my prayers.

Yep. I played it again on Sunday (for the purity of the daaaance dahling, nowt to do with Val being topless again. Oh no. although Gilles in that towel always worth a second look. What he does to Peta's legs is ).

It's a belter of a tune and a crowd pleaser. He hasn't opened the show yet so I can see him opening with that or they'll let him go last again.

totally agree

at the start of the show he couldnt put one foot in front of another, on saturday night he did a dance that looked like a quickstep

I give him 10/10 for effort, he is doing his best and throwing himself, 100% into each and every dance he does

yes, he doesnt get it correct so times and his footwork is dodgy at times BUT I would rather watch 100 Ed's, giving it his all than 1 Anne Widdecombe
