Welcome to the UK TV Magazine Thread, except for as I say the Radio Times Christmas Editions to which we already have a well loved thread for, even though some try to ruin it for others.

Please use this to discuss articles from the TV Listings magazines, Helping out others if they do the games and quizzes and need a little help. Or if anybody needs a token for something, and another user does maybe they can be helped.

We can discuss Bank Holiday schedules, have a good moan about that they aren't like they used to be.

When in like World Cup years, and the TV Listings mags, give a alternative viewing guide depending on what matches either BBC or ITV show

But remember NO Radio Times Christmas Discussion, maybe articles from those Editions could be talked about, but im leaving that to you my friends

On the Bank Holidays anything special these days has gone, mostly in my eyes, due to the fact BBC and ITV have fully committed to only putting Children's Programmes, Except for ITVS Scrambled section on a Weekend Mornings.

Many years back we had Holiday Mornings full of fun and frolics from Children's BBC and Children's ITV.

Back in those days of course the schedule would change from Mid July to the Beginning of September, before the School Programs started again

I was always amazed at holidays that the BBC gave Disney what must have been airtime worth millions in advertising terms in Disneytime, usually coinciding with the release of the latest Disney film.

So five posts in and not a single specific post about a TV listing magazine, more general gripes about broadcasters, so the point of this thread is what exactly?

Does anyone know if there is a reason why TV listings magazines are released every Tuesday? I remember at one point they were released every Monday but then the release day got changed to Tuesday's probably around the early 1990's.

Back in the 1990's, before the days of the internet and DigiGuide, there was a TV magazine included in the Sunday People called 'TV First' which basically provided listings for an extra week in advance. At the time this free magazine was really significant as no other TV listings magazine provided listings this far out in advance. The People scrapped this magazine I think in the late 1990's. Not too sure why it stopped but suspect it may have been because the listings provided were sometimes in-accurate so they probably didn't see much point in it continuing.

Then came along DigiGuide which I first subscribed to in 2003 which I've had ever since. Yet TV magazines are still released every Tuesday. With listings often provided/confirmed every Thursday by the broadcasters, I wonder why the TV magazines aren't released sooner than the following Tuesday. I'm not moaning, I'm just curious as to why all TV magazines are released on Tuesday's

Just trying it out, for UK TV Magazines, broadcasting etc, the Christmas one is successful so I thought I would see if a weekly one would work.

Well maybe discuss the magazines then, rather than what broadcasters do.

Oh, and move it to the Print Media section.

I'm old enough to remember when we bought the Radio Times for BBC listings and the TV Times for ITV (and laterally Channel 4) listings. Thoroughly enjoyed getting both magazines at the time, though would seem ridiculous now in this age of information!

Kept the Radio Times going for a few years then switched to TV Times after listings were opened up, then moved over to What's On Tv when both the TV Times (and Radio Times) became too pricey. Last couple of years I have managed to get a few 12 for £1 RT offers and a couple of TV Times deals, invariably switching back to the (58p) WOTV.

Does anyone remember before the listings opened up a publisher decided to take on the Radio Tines and TV Times and publish a multi channel (paid for weekly) guide? Can't remember the name of it - TV something or other (!), it only appeared for a month or couple of months at most and was legally forced to close. Date wise must have been around the early - mid 1980s?

When i was a paperboy back in the early 80s our newsagent used to have them in on a Tuesday but kept them back until Wednesday as their official publication date was a Thursday

However the womens magazines (Woman and Woman's Own) started to come out on Tuesday so they fol;lowed reason being Tuesday was when mothers were paid the family allowance and had to go to the post office so then they went shopping and the magazines were there ready to buy saving them a trip

Yes Now you mention it, when my Gran used to get my copies, she said sometimes, she would see them behind the counter, and the shop owner couldn't sell them when he got them in, but if my gran ever was in the shop on her own, or his wife was there, we got them early

Sorry to hear about your CP, I used to work with children and it always amazed me how brave and strong they were to cope with the condition. Thanks for starting the thread by the way.

yeah one of the perks of being a paperboy being the first to get your hands on a Radio Times

Then I moved inside and became head of magazines so it was up to me when the Christmas issues went out on sale but never before I had read it first
