He's a politician. If guilt-tripping is what is needed for votes, be sure he will say it. As a successful politician (to a degree...), he can say it and sound sincere.

I feel like I'm succumbing to RealityTV-itis if I say not saying thank you annoys me...

... but it annoys me.

I enjoy Ed's stoical face as he's waiting for the result, practiced at the vote counts he's been to. Some of them (eg Daisy) look so worried it upsets me. The candidates don't leap up and down and mouth 'Thank you, thank you' when they hear the results of the vote so it's not going to come naturally to Ed to do that.

As for taking the opportunity to be over-huggy with Katya, I haven't noticed that at all. In fact I've seen Bruno be more inappropriately affectionate with female cast members than Ed is.

I'm not a fan of Ed's dancing, but I don't particularly read too much into the reactions generally and will give Ed (and any of them) the benefit that he just forgot in the moment when it's a rush of relief and then happiness at going through.

Usually both Ed and Rob say thank you when with Claud. They didn't this week because she went over long on Louise and they only had a minute each to answer what they were dancing to/how nervous they were respectively. Had she framed their bits with What do you want to say to the people at home, they would have done effusive speeches. I really wouldn't read anything into it.

Exactly.
Anyone notice Aljaz having a love-in with himself while Daisy desperately tried to hug him and join in the celebration?

Aljaz has done some questionable reactions of late and that was another - Natalie was completely over the top as well.

As for Edward, he is what he is, maybe it is because he is 'trying' so hard to learn to dance he forgets the bit where he should thank people who voted for him.

It's only on recent series that they have mouthed thank you as the results are happening.

They all normally say thank you to the public on ITT or when speaking to Claudia. i suppose in the heat of the moment during the results they probably don't know what they are doing.

As long as he continues to entertain me he is getting my vote whether he thanks me or not

The insincere and overblown thank yous from some contestants turns my stomach

It is quite painful to watch the slebs the longer it goes on before their names are called. Claudia looked in a right state.

Someone made the point that Ed looks more relaxed under the circumstances as he has been through votes that make a material difference. I discovered the other day, that candidates get to know the results about 30 mins before they are made public by the returning officer, I guess so that they can be challenged for a recount. No wonder they all look quite composed.

Whatever, the results show is heart in the mouth stuff for the contestants and FMs like me - I kept clear of DS yesterday for fear of stumbling across the result.

The 'thank yous" when they are through are something I look out for. They all say it sometimes, and sometimes they don't.

Yes, he has when Claudia pins him to the couch by saying something like 'it must be nice to keep getting the public votes?' to which he will then say yes it is and how much he thanks the GBP, but I don't think he has ever thanked people when his name is called as safe. Perhaps it goes against his politician background to thank people

I follow ED on facebook and each and every week he puts us a lovely post about his feelings and thanks everyone who voted for him. He has not missed at week as yet, He put up last week a photo of the envelope Katya came in with on Monday marking out their dance and says this is what she does every week.

I warm more to a celebrity who says I am doing my best, and thanks the professional for their support.”

Indeed. This was discussed on another thread here last week ( cant remember where ) and it reminded me of a training clip from a few years back.

It was of Anton and his celeb ( again cant remember who it was ) and she said to him I think we are getting better and he said, well you are, I can already dance.

Is it me or have they increased the tension music when Tess reveals the couples that have to dance again?? It never used to be this loud.

I'm the other way actually I can stand it when after they've got through the celebrity or pro dancer start exaggeratingly mouthing 'thank you' or gesticulating with their hands clasped in prayer, almost. Or even worse the whole blowing kisses to the camera, bet a cameraman or two has got the wrong idea of the years.

There is plenty of opportunity to express their undoubted undying gratitude to the voting public on ITT or in the build up video or even when being brow beaten by Claudia up the stairs. Although that could seem to much like appealing for votes to be considered 'the done thing'

Anyway Ed has spent most of his working life prostrating himself to the vast unwashed of voters in politics. Maybe he wanted to get away from that.

I agree.

As much as I love Aljaz, I was cringing last night when he and Daisy went through. He went well OTT and somehow started almost disappearing up the stairs leaving Daisy just 'hanging'.

To his credit, he admitted as much up in the Claudatoriulm.

Really don't care if they say thanks or not. In fact, I think I prefer them not saying it.

Nobody forces us to vote, they owe us nothing. I'd rather them not pander to us.

Yes I think less is more, and Ed has made it clear in other ways (including those mentioned) that he is grateful for votes and realises he is only still in the show because of public votes.
I think some people on this forum and in the Twitter world would happily slate him if he did say thank you and thank you and look so grateful - accusing him of grovelling etc

Katya always mouths Thank You. I'm not sure about Ed.

I know Greg always thanks the fans when he is on the couch.

He comes across as loving himself and arrogant and I'm sure he doesn't mean it, please Ed, just say thanks once in a while.”

He isn't the only one that doesn't say thank you!

very few of them do
