When will we find out if anything is coming cos there's a cut off day I know might still be few weeks away.
I'd have thought anything decent that was coming would have gone FTA or been testing by now.

Think the platform has got pretty much all it really needs anyway.

Yes it's good. Just could do with Amazon or Dave channel I'm not been greedy and I'm not asking for channels that will never join like some people....

Thinking of the channels which are still missing from Freesat compared to Freeview, i.e. Dave, Quest and 4Music, I can't see anything other than 4Music possibly appearing.

I personally think that this year there won't be anything. Maybe some obscure FTV moving to FTA but that really is it
I would agree with that assessment. If and when it does arrive, where will it end up? In the general entertainment or music section?

There's also a rumour that E4 HD will be going FTA next year, so maybe not this year's Christmas present, but next year's

If it's true, C4 may not have a choice if it's because intend Sky kick them out of the Sub Club upon expiration of the contract.

In addition, HD is now becoming much more the expected norm, rather than the premium service it once was.

Nevertheless, the VAST majority of FTA channels are SD!?!

Compare to the equivalent for France (which is encrypted but with no ongoing subscription, it's a FTV system for rights reasons) where all the channels bar two are now HD, and all in MPEG4.

I'm always shocked at how awful the non HD channels on our freesat look; it's a shame that we can't go MPEG4 overnight as the French have, it makes a huge difference, even to SD channels.

Granted also that France only have 27 "freeview" channels, they've preferred to maintain quality over quantity.

Why would you imagine ANYTHING might happen, Freesat don't give 'Christmas Presents', nor do other broadcasters.

The new channels that have appeared in the past are nothing to do with Freesat either, apart from their owners decided to pay Freesat for inclusion on their EPG (which is all Freesat is really).

Interestingly, I actually saw a Freesat advert on ITV earlier today

It's just cos over the last 4 Decembers they have had a big channel push maybe this is just a coincidence that it usually happens in December ? Or they know about it in September or October and just wait till December for a extra push for freesat sales.

The way Sky are pushing the sports channels and with good discounts currently available they obviously need more people to subscribe to balance the books.

It would not be unthinkable for Sky to put SS News in sd back on freeview and freesat as a barker channel.

I really can't see anything new being added for Christmas, this thread is all just pure fantasy for the same old stuff..
As others have already said there is nothing more out there now that isn't locked into contracts.
I think all we will see now is brand new channels join if they go FTA and then the usual cycle of channels dropping off and rejoining every so often

Agreed, hopefully the daily posts asking about Dave and the supposed 'Christmas present' can be given a rest now.

That does not surprise me one bit since Dave is successful as a pay-TV channel for UKTV. Not only that, the economic uncertainty generated by the Brexit vote means that it's now potentially less likely that channels will be moved from subscription certainty and guaranteed revenue to ad-funded uncertainty.

I think we should be grateful that UKTV have given us Drama, Really and Yesterday which are all good additions to Freesat. If anyone really wants Dave content then the thing to is either combine Freesat with Freeview, watch Dave programmes on UKTV's catchup service or watch Dave online via TV Player.
