You have to pay for that, so it will be an app like Netflix is available on the box and nothing more!
So how is that a Christmas present?

ITV2/3/4 in HD would be great for me.

They probably already are, just the money Sky pay ITV to keep them encrypted is too high to turn down, same for C4. Once Sky see less value in them as major platform additions then they'll reduce this figure and at that point it's down to ITV whether they carry on or go FTA.

Having just entered the world of surround sound with a decent 5.1 setup I'd appreciate more stuff in surround sound, even considering ITV don't implement 5.1, bog standard Dolby surround with centre dialogue is still better than 2.0!

You're rather ignoring the fact that ITV2/3/4HD were created solely as subscription channels - and only exist because of that, and there was never any intention for them to be free.

This isn't to say that there isn't a small possibility of them going FTA in the future, but it's probably just as likely that they could be shut down entirely.

That's a strange comment... It is unlikely they will not go FTA eventually!?!

There never going to scrap them even when they stop getting money off sky. If anything they'll scrap the SD versions cos in a few years I'm sure HD must become the norm.

Given the uncertainty that Brexit has generated, those channels are almost certainly going to stay behind a Sky paywall because ITV literally cannot now afford to become overly dependent on advertising revenues which can be volatile.

Yes, they solely existed as subscription channels back in 2010 but we're nearly in 2017 now where HD is considered "normal" for programme delivery and Playout so even without Sky's money closing them down would be absurd.

There was never any intention of doing so, they were created solely as subscription channels.

Assuming the subscription brings them income (which is a reasonable assumption, as that's the only reason they exist), then where would they replace that income if they went FTA?.

Nigel, there's been a lot of channels you said probably wouldn't go FTA because of subscription income, but time and again you've been proven wrong.

If Sky ever pulled the plug on HD subs, I can't imagine that ITV would suddenly close down these HD channels in favour of going back to SD only. More likely they would shut down the SD variants instead and deliver these HD channels FTA (on satellite at least).
It could still be many years away, but the switch to FTA HD delivery of ITV2,3 &4 will likely happen eventually in some form or other.

Perhaps you would care to list some of those 'lot' of channels?.

But in any case, the only channels specifically created to be subscription only were ITV2/3/4 HD.

But to keep more in tune with this thread (even though it's title makes no sense ), the channel which Freesat really needs is Dave - and any others that are available on Full Freeview.

CH5-HD and the UKTV channels are ones that spring to mind.

That's just your opinion though. Others may disagree.

I'll take PBS America over Dave any day of the week.

From the looks of it Dave is not coming.
Everything else on Freesat is complete trash, I'm so angry I going to kick my Freesat box out the window.
