Most people should have realised that there wouldn't be anything as there is nothing left that is FTA to add

There's tons of FTA channels out there that aren't on Freesat!!

Whether it would make economic sense for them to join is another matter...

Maybe the new look Motors TV in the future could possibly be an option? Suspect not though as these channels are looking more at apps as ways to stream these days.

Maybe I should re-phrase as nothing left that would add value.

All the ones asked for time and time again I think are unlikely to go FTA

I agree; a lot of the free to air channels are tat and are not worth having on Freesat. That said, there are perhaps half a dozen or so free to air/free to view channels that it would be worth having on Freesat.

June's Brexit vote has put a spanner in the works since it's generated economic uncertainty and think that probably makes it less likely that we'll see major/fewer defections from Sky in 2017.

Startup support ended ... so it was a case of continue or close ... no defection involved!?!

Indeed, Joshua, plus a few music channels directly defected from Sky as did PBS America and UKTV's Drama, Yesterday and Really channels so these things can and do happen.

Freesat decided to wait until the day itself to give their Christmas present

Use the code XMAS10 to receive 10% off Humax Freesat boxes:

As has been said all along, Freesat don't "give Christmas presents", there's nothing for them to give.

The fact Humax are offering a discount is nothing to do with Freesat, and more likely justr an attempt to shift boxes before the announced price increases occur,

The music channels had rapidly falling audiences and no longer offered any pay TV value, their only content (music videos) is available for free on YouTube. I'd guess the MTV music channels are only encrypted due to wider carriage agreements between Viacom and Sky, as they certainly aren't worthy of pay status,

I strongly suspect PBS didn't defect but was dropped as a pay channel due to relatively low ratings.

Christmas has come and passed, and no Christmas present and no Dave.
We got to make the most of what channels we do have.

Merry Christmas Everyone.

You do not need Freest to get Dave - the channel is available via Freeview/Freeview Play/YouView
and other platforms like BT TV, Talk Talk, Sky and Virgin or even online

Non of which are Freesat, the point of this sub-forum and the point of this thread......
Its like saying Sky Sports is available on those platforms, that fact is meaningless to Freesat users!

But only on a tiny number of the UK transmitters.

Freesat exists to provide extra channels to the more than a thousand transmitters that only provide Freeview Lite - and Dave is the biggest missing one (presumably because the subscription money it gets from Sky/VM helps to keep the channel going).

It was contained in an email from Freesat, so presumably there must have been some collaboration.

Is this 10% off offer available generally??

If not, it might be useful for some people.

Yes it is a "tiny number" but these are the highest power sites covering 90% of the UK population with COM 4/5/6.

Leaving a HUGE number of people unable to get Dave!

9.98% of the remaining UK population able to get terrestrial TV from relay sites, probably about 6m people so in those terms it seems a lot but for the 90% who can get it terrestrially then it's not.

I'm sure contractual issues must be what's holding back Dave from going FTA on DSAT.

The thing is, in real terms, there isn't that much to watch on Dave, IMHO. Just how many times can you watch the same episode of 'I Have Got News For You', for example? The only plus point to Dave is that thus far, it's carried all of the episodes of Suits, and I hope that it will air the next series/episodes on 29/01/17. Pity it's only in SD though.

These UKTV channels seem a bit odd to me, anyway. They clearly have access to a large back catalogue of material, but just keep showing the same stuff time and time again. Home still works for me because it is carrying a lot of stuff that I haven't seen, so is handy for some televisual wallpaper watching, as it were, but as for the rest, hmmmm.
