No, you just stand where you are told and get on with it. Very few pros actually like judging. It's a very long and uncomfortable day, and, though I hate to admit it, unless it is one of the prestige top amateur & pro events, it can also be very boring! The other problem is the pay - very often it barely covers the expense of driving to and from the event, and judges of weekly comps are frequently out of pocket..

Anyone can unexpectedly get stomach cramps (possibly the onset of 24-48 hour tummy trouble).

I suspect the serious answer is that judges marks for the acts they had already marked would be removed (so everyone had three sets of marks)

How would they reasonably be able to judge the routine?

I assume those dreadful VT's are designed to provide for such occurrences but anyone can get caught short...”

They certainly make me want to go.

The televised show may be around 2 hours max, but I think others who have been to recordings have said they take four or five hours to film because of the results show, music guests, etc. also being filmed.

There is always the consideration (albeit unlikely) that one of them may suffer a heart attack or a stroke during the transmission. If that happens, there is nothing that anybody can do about it. Presumably the producers have a contingency plan in case it ever does.

A call of nature, however is something that is within their control. As somebody previously mentioned, they are professionals. They will have ensured that they are physically comfortable before the transmission begins and they will drink little or nothing while on air. If someone has an upset stomach, there are medications to calm it down for the duration.

Never mind needing a quick pee, what would happen if one of them needed to take a phone call? Awkward.

Anyway, haven't the judges already seen the dances once or twice before the live show? If they missed the live dance, they'd just read the notes they made based on the rehersal and hope to God they hadn't missed a massive mistake.

That made me laugh. I hope it was meant as a joke.
