Does roast beef keep you awake?
Had my first sunday roast of the year yesterday, and I'll be honest I had far too much roast beef.
Even though I had this around 5pm, I noticed that when I went to bed around 23:30 it took me much longer that normal to fall asleep. Is this linked? |

No. There's nothing especially "energizing" about beef.

Uncooked beef keeps me awake - bluddy mooing for hours in the field behind the house.
Chicken is even worse at 6.30am. Cock a frigging doodle doo! |

Why aren't you taking me seriously??
I normally fall asleep within 15/20 mins, yet because of all the slices of roast beef I ate, it was nearer 90mins before I dropped off. Surely there must be something to do with the protein in the beef that caused this? |

"I'll thcweam and thcweam 'till I'm thick" Well I'll show you. There's still a significant amount left in the fridge and later on today I'm going to eat a sizeable chunk, and see what happens later when I go to bed. |

But how do you know that it was definitely the beef that kept you awake? It could have been any number of thing. Did you intake any caffeine, OP?

Well I'll show you. There's still a significant amount left in the fridge and later on today I'm going to eat a sizeable chunk, and see what happens later when I go to bed. I ate a good 5 thickly carved slices from the fridge, and low and behold I struggled to get to sleep. I also woke up at least 3 times during the night as well as having some seriously lucid dreams. There's clearly a link here and I won't rest till I understand why. |

It must be something to do with all those steroids they pump into beef cattle.

Well I'm still not convinced it was the beef.
OP, I think you should list everything that you've consumed over the last month so we can get a bigger picture of what's going on.

You ate a lot of roast beef. For some reason - possibly a subconscious worry that you'd eaten too much to sleep well, possibly something else - you slept poorly. You have now formed a mental association between eating too much roast beef and sleeping poorly, which means that if you eat roast beef you will inevitably sleep poorly because you're expecting to do so. In other words, your brain is messing with you. The kicker is that in order to verify or disprove this theory you're going to have to conduct a series of experiments in which food is piped directly into your stomach without you knowing what it is. Good luck! |
