Whilst I feel dreadful for those that will be losing their jobs, I also have considerable sympathy for the management.
It really seems to be a 'change of die' situation - if there isn't the money coming in (through advertising) to pay for all of their current presenters and premises, what options do they have? |

I speak only as a listener living on the Suffolk/Norfolk border so can't claim to be particularly informed, but this is my take on this...
I severely doubt that Rob Chandler 'losing' his Norwich breakfast show is a publicity stunt. Imagine how insensitive it would be to the other presenters in the group if the management were to appear to be 'playing games' with who was/wasn't getting redundancy just to achieve publicity...I just don't buy it. I think the decision to bin off Rob Chandler is fundamentally about cost. I would imagine that he is on CONSIDERABLY more money than any of their other presenters and that even with the improved listening figures he has created, management don't feel that he represents value for money. I think the reality is far more straightforward. Financially, Anglian Radio has no long term viability if it continues broadcasting in its present model of 5 stations, with paying business rates/rent for 4 different locations, etc. There simply isn't the advertising revenue. The consolidation to in effect, just two stations is about survival. I agree with other posts that it would make sense to re-brand, however I don't think this is happening for two reasons, Firstly, Anglian Radio simply don't have the money to do this at the present time (think of the cost of new station imaging, marketing, etc.) and Secondly, the local names are well known and differentiate them from the Bauer/Global 'brands'. The ultimate irony is that Anglia Radio's strength is that they are 'local', yet they can't afford to be. I am also confused re: the programming of these stations. Both Chris Marston and Rob Chandler are listed as being 'Programme Manager' at Radio Norwich. However, Paul Morris was recently appointed to an off-air Programme Controller role at Town 102 & Dream 100? My stab in the dark re: what they will do with programming is: Norfolk Station Breakfast: Chris Marston (PC) Daytime: Tim Lindon Drive: Paul Carter East Suffolk/North Essex Station Breakfast: Dom Atkins Daytime: Jonathan Murphy Drive: Paul Morris (PC) I don't think Anglian Radio will be about 'personality' jocks going forwards (hence why I doubt Nick Pandolfi and Wayne Bavin, along with Rob Chandler will be part of the new line ups) as I don't think that they will feel they can afford them. I would expect 'more music breakfast shows, etc. in the new year. I assume Steve Bradlehy is just a stop-gap in Norwich due to his 'boating' business interests. |

Personality and local is the one thing that sets Norwich 99.9 from the bland alternative Global and Bauer offerings. Take that away and the listeners will go as well. So what if Rob is costly to take him off is radio suicide.

Anyone know who owns Anglian Radio? There's a suggestion on that Facebook site that one of the shareholders died recently.
The only management that seems to have surfaced lately in press etc seems to be Jonathan Hemmings and what I presume is his wife? |

Interesting, the Hemmings two seem to have been appointed in January 2015 so are relatively recent additions.
I guess once David Cocks died things changed. |

These cuts suggest Anglian wants to try and carry on as a more bare-boned organisation rather than put itself up for sale, much like, say, GCap pulling investment out of its DAB stations before Global came calling. Perhaps a combination with another group's assets would be preferable, however: one would have thought these clusters of stations could perhaps be a good scalp for Adventure, plugging as they do some of the landmass between the existing Connect and Radio Essex areas?

So Far I have heard that Paul Carter (Beach) and Tim lindon (Beach) Have kept their Jobs. Tim I can understand with his experience but Paul Carter ? Geez they really do want to lose Listeners don't they. Not a lot of hope for all the other DJs if this is true.

Yup. Two out of three Beach presenters stay but I gather none of the existing Norwich or North Norfolk presenters will keep their weekday on-air gig.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I don't think many people would agree that Paul Carter offers a more engaging show than Rob, but perhaps it just doesn't make enough of a difference? If people like the music and the info on offer, then maybe any presenter will do? So any ideas who will fill the third remaining slot? I personally hope Chris Marston hangs in there, but I fear he may suffer the same fate as his former Radio Broadland colleague. |

I assumed that Chris Marston would remain as PC? My punt would be Wayne Bavin heading up to Norfolk...

Will be interesting to see who will go where in this new schedule. I would assume
Breakfast - Wayne Bavin Daytime - Tim Lindon Drive - Paul Carter However, they might keep Paul at breakfast as he has a strong following in that day part already. To be absolutely honest, this is a pretty decent line up. The Beach is extremely popular in it's TSA and has been for a very long time. Norwich has only very recently picked itself up after years of really quite dire ratings. Wayne Bavin has done a great job in Ipswich and would be a great addition. |

Paul Carter ix awful though but maybe he would suit better on Drive as he used to do it on the beach and that was good. When is this all due to change and why they didn't relocate to Lowestoft Is beyond me unless the studios are bigger in Norwich.

I would argue that The Beach has long been the strongest of Anglian's stations so it makes sense to build on that.
They have for a long time, even in the days of Radio Broadland been the market leader in their transmission area. Many people would have chosen to listen to Tom Kay/Paul Carter precisely because they weren't Rob Chandler. Whilst he has a big following, he is rather a 'marmite' listen, I remember when he moved to Radio Norwich, lots of existing Norwich listeners weren't happy. It is a brave move for Anglian to ditch Rob Chandler but perhaps it might be time for a change? I felt this should have happened when the Norfolk and Suffolk Hearts merged - Matt Foister was tremendous, much better than the current pairing Heart East anglia now have in place. |

Kevin Ford is shown as 10-15 on Town and 15-19 on Dream this week
Wasn't there someone different last week on Day times on Town? |

Paul Carter for Norwich breakfast if thats correct I wont be listening. Rob has more personality in his little finger than Paul Carter has in his whole body. Awful choice bring back Rob or Wayne if not.

Interesting that the concensus here seems to be that both locations will keep a programme controller and that they won't be on air (unless they provide a voice track show for the two stations.
Given that both current PCs are well known local presenters and are very good it's another few pounds saved, especially with a thinned down network and fewer locations to manage |

I'm not worried aboutvRob chandler apart from his experience he don't do much for me. But if Paul Carter is kept on Breakfast gid help us all he couldn't even tell the time properly today and he is forever saying that horrible radio mistake (With Me Paul Carter) If Wayne Bavin moved to Norwich that woukd be good but no way will I listen to that droll from Paul Carter he don't wake me up he makes me fall asleep

It's funny the things that annoy about people.
Paul Carter leaving the g off the end of words every time does it for me. Sad I know but it really winds me up.

I would have no qualms about Paul Carter forming part of the new line up, after all he is experienced and capable. I just, personally, don't think he's right for breakfast. In fact, I live in Great Yarmouth but listen to the "wrong" breakfast show on Radio Norwich, just out of preference.
I think Wayne Bavin's cheeky, slightly edgy style is appealing for a new Breakfast show. I liked him when he covered the Norwich Breakfast show some years ago. I hope they are brave enough to shake up the schedule and move Paul to daytimes. If we ended up with something along those lines, I would be a happy listener! Especially as they are starting to be a little more adventurous with their musical features too. I much prefer the Number one's and Ultimate 80's to the dreary time-tunnel type feature of the past. |

Totally agree, I think the proposed line up is a strong one; provided Wayne is on Breakfast. I have to be honest in saying I would actually much prefer a schedule of Bavin, Lindon and Carter to a lineup of Chandler, Hillyer and Marston any day - the same voice in the same day part for 20 years+ in the case of Chris and 30 years in the case of Rob is possibly too much! |

Yes agreed. Paul Carter will not be on breakfast so it's a case of where he goes. We know Tim will be on air again he will probably do daytime or drive so all we can hope for is Wayne at breakfast and it will be a fairly good line up.
